Hugh Pemberton (physician)
Hugh Spear Pemberton (June 1890 – 15 January 1956) was an England, English physician remembered for describing Pemberton's sign. Biography Hugh Pemberton qualified Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, MB ChB from the University of Liverpool in 1913 and started working at the David Lewis Northern Hospital in Liverpool. During World War I he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps, returning to the Northern Hospital after the war. He became a Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1921 and was appointed Consultant (medicine), consultant in 1924. He was also a lecturer in clinical medicine at the University of Liverpool. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1941. He founded the diabetic clinic at the Northern Hospital in 1922, and published articles on diabetes, thyrotoxicosis and peripheral vascular disease, including the description of his eponymous sign in 1946. Hugh Pemberton (historian)
Hugh R. Pemberton, FRHistS, is an academic historian specialising in the late twentieth-century British politics and British social and economic policy. As of 2018, he is Professor of Contemporary British History at the University of Bristol. Career Pemberton spent a decade working in financial services as an analyst before moving into academia. He graduated from the Open University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, before completing a Master of Arts degree in contemporary history at the University of Bristol, here he also carried out doctoral studies; his PhD was awarded in 2001 for his thesis "The Keynesian-plus experiment: a study of social learning in the UK core executive, 1960–1966". He stayed on at Bristol as an Economic and Social Research Council postdoctoral fellow, before spending two years at the London School of Economics as a British Academy postdoctoral fellow.
