Hugh Acheson
Hugh Acheson (born November 5, 1971) is a Canadian-born chef and restaurateur. He owns four restaurants in Georgia, and serves as a judge on the reality cooking competition show ''Top Chef'', and as an Iron Chef on Iron Chef Canada. Early life Acheson was born on November 5, 1971 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The youngest of four children, Acheson has three older sisters. His father was a professor of economics at Ottawa's Carleton University, while his mother was a reading tutor. Acheson's parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised primarily by his father in the Manor Park and Centretown neighbourhoods of Ottawa, with the exception of two years that he spent living with his mother and stepfather in the American cities of Clemson, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. Centretown
Centretown is a neighbourhood in Somerset Ward, in central Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is defined by the city as "the area bounded on the north by Gloucester Street and Lisgar Street, on the east by the Rideau Canal, on the south by the Queensway freeway and on the west by Bronson Avenue." Traditionally it was all of Ottawa west of the Rideau Canal, while Lower Town was everything to the east. Gary Danko
Gary Danko is an American chef. He combines French, Mediterranean, and American styles into his cooking. He is best known for his eponymous restaurant in San Francisco, California. Early life Danko was born in Massena, New York, his father was a Hungarian immigrant. His grandmother was Jewish and he grew up with Hungarian cooking with Jewish overtones. Culinary development Danko started cooking at the local Village Inn restaurant at age 14. By the time he graduated high school, he had been exposed to every position in the restaurant. Danko completed his culinary education at the Hyde Park, New York campus of the Culinary Institute of America. A sous-chef is a chef who is second in command in a kitchen; the person ranking next after the head chef, usually the more hands on manager with regards to training staff and organising the kitchen. Duties and functions The sous-chef has many responsibilities, because the executive chef has a more overarching role. Café Henry Burger
Café Henry Burger was a restaurant in Gatineau, Quebec, near Ottawa. The restaurant was opened in 1922 by Swiss immigrant Henry Burger. The business expanded to include a hotel, but the business was forced to close following the 1929 stock market crash. The restaurant reopened on Laval Street and in 1936 Burger died and his wife Marie-Anne Monnin took over the business. After the building was destroyed by a fire in 1942 it moved to its final location at 69 Rue Laurier. In 1963 Marie Burger was named Restaurateur of the Year.
