Hugar
Hugar (meaning "minds"; ) are an Icelandic neo-classical post-rock duo, consisting of multi-instrumentalist composers Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson from Seltjarnarnes, Iceland. History Bergur and Pétur are childhood friends and started the band in 2012. Hugar released their debut album, ''Hugar'', in 2014, featuring Ólafur Arnalds playing drums. It was given out for free online. They signed with Sony and in 2019 their second album ''Varða'' was released on Sony Masterworks. The band performed at Iceland Airwaves in 2017, 2018, and 2019. As of 2019 the band had 50 million plays on Spotify. Bergur and Pétur wrote the score for the 2019 film '' The Vasulka Effect'' about artists Steina and Woody Vasulka. Bergur Þórisson
__NOTOC__ Bergur Þórisson (transliterated as Thorisson; born 1993) is an Icelandic musician, composer, and audio engineer. He is one half of the neo-classical post-rock duo Hugar, musical director for Björk, and frequent collaborator of Ólafur Arnalds. Career Bergur grew up in Seltjarnarnes and played the trombone. After graduating from Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð in 2012, Bergur was accepted into Juilliard but decided not to pursue it. He took one semester of engineering at Reykjavík University. Bergur joined Ólafur Arnalds in writing the music for the 2013 British TV series ''Broadchurch'', for which Ólafur was awarded the BAFTA awards. Bergur then toured with Ólafur around Europe. Bergur was the audio engineer on Björk's 2017 Grammy-nominated album, ''Utopia'', and then toured with her on stage on her Cornucopia tour. Arnór Dan Arnarson
Arnór Dan Arnarson (often credited as Arnór Dan) is an Icelandic musician best known as the lead singer of the progressive rock band Agent Fresco as well as for his collaborations with Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds. He was selected male vocalist of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2016. Career Arnór Dan got his musical start in a high school band called Rosa. In 2008, he helped found the progressive rock band Agent Fresco, which has since released two studio albums and one EP. He has frequently collaborated with fellow Icelandic musician Ólafur Arnalds. He contributed vocals on four tracks of the latter's 2013 album, ''For Now I Am Winter''. Also in 2013, working with Arnalds again, he contributed vocals to the song "So Close" for the British police procedural TV show ''Broadchurch''; the song wasn't released until 2015, together with the track "So Far". Seltjarnarnes
Seltjarnarnes () is a town and municipality in the Capital Region of Iceland. The municipality is located on a peninsula, bordered only by Reykjavík to the east. It is also the most densely populated municipality in Iceland. It took on its current political form shortly after the Second World War and was formally created as a township in 1947. Iceland Airwaves
Iceland Airwaves is a music festival held annually in November in Reykjavík, Iceland, since 1999. Its main focus is showcasing new music, both Icelandic and international. Background The event is promoted and produced by Iceland Music Export and sponsored by its founder, Icelandair, in cooperation with the City of Reykjavík. In February 2018, the event managing company, Sena Live, bought the logo and all associated trademarks of Iceland Airwaves. History The first festival was held in October 1999 as a one-off event in an airplane hangar at Reykjavík Airport. In 2014, the event switched to being held in November. In 2018, 50% of the performers at Iceland Airwaves were female, making the festival one of the first to include gender equality in its lineup.
