Hubert of Liège (Latinisation of names, Latinized: ''Hubertus'') ( 656 – 30 May 727 A.D.) was a Christian saint who became the first bishop of Liège in 708 A.D. He is a patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians and metalworkers. Known as the "Apostle of the Ardennes", he was called upon, until the early 20th century, to cure rabies through the use of the traditional Saint Hubert's Key. Hubert van Eyck (; – 18 September 1426) was an Early Netherlandish painter and older brother of Jan van Eyck, as well as Lambert and Margareta, also painters. The absence of any single work that he can clearly be said to have completed continues to make an assessment of his achievement highly uncertain, although for centuries he had the reputation of being an outstanding founding artist of Early Netherlandish painting.. Hubert Boulard (21 January 1971 – 12 February 2020) was a French comics writer and colorist usually credited mononymously as "Hubert". Biography Boulard attended the École régionale des beaux-arts d'Angers, and began writing comics in the 1990s, after befriending Yoann, who had encouraged him to start in the field of comics. As an illustrator, he worked with authors such as , Yoann, , Richard Malka, Paul Gillon, David Beauchard, and Jason. At the same time, Boulard wrote comic scripts, starting in 2002 with the publication of ''Legs de l'alchimiste'' with Hervé Tanquerelle and ''Yeux Verts'' with . Hubert Marshal Butler (23 October 1900 – 5 January 1991) was an Irish essayist who wrote on a wide range of topics, from local history and archaeology to the political and religious affairs of eastern Europe before and during World War II. He also travelled to Nazi Austria on his own initiative and at his own expense and helped save Jews from being sent to concentration camps. Hubert E. Buchanan (born April 24, 1941) is a former United States Air Force captain and fighter pilot in the Vietnam War who was shot down, captured, and spent 2,362 days as a prisoner of war in Hanoi and surrounding areas. He was one of the first American POWs to return to Vietnam after the war, and visited the man credited with his capture. Hubert Auriol (; 7 June 1952 – 10 January 2021) was a French people, French professional Off-road racing, off-road motorcyclist and auto racer competing in rally raid events. After retiring as a competitor, he served as the director of Dakar Rally, The Paris-Dakar rally. Auriol is notable for being the first competitor to win the Dakar rally on motorcycles and in automobiles. In 2012, Auriol was named an Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. Hubert James Austin (31 March 1841 – 1915) was an English architect who practised in Lancaster. With his partners he designed many churches and other buildings, mainly in the northwest of England. Early life and career Hubert James Austin was the youngest son of the Revd Thomas Austin, later the rector of Redmarshall, County Durham. He attended Richmond Grammar School, and in 1860 was articled to his older brother, Thomas, an architect in Newcastle upon Tyne.
