Huay Xai
Houayxay (, ; , ) (also ''Huoeisay'', ''Huai Sai'', ''Houei Sai'', ''Huay Xay'' or ''Huay Xai'') is a district in Bokeo Province, Laos, on the border with Thailand. The town lies on the Mekong River opposite Chiang Khong in Thailand. The Fourth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge at Ban Houayxay, which opened in December 2013 and replaced ferry service across the river, is the northernmost road border crossing between the two countries. Asian Highway 3, which runs through Ban Houayxay, extends north to Yunnan Province of China and south to Chiang Rai Province of Thailand. Houayxay has a domestic airport (HOE) with regular flights to Vientiane and Luang Prabang (depending on the season). Pakbeng
Pakbeng (Lao: ປາກແບ່ງ, ) is a small village in Laos, on the Mekong River, about halfway between the Thai border at Huay Xai and Luang Prabang, Laos. Pakbeng is connected by a sealed road with Oudomxay province along the Nam Beng River. Geography Pakbeng had its main road paved in 2005 and also just completed a hydroelectric station downriver thanks to a World Bank loan. Before then, the town was dependent on electrical generators for electricity. There is a small wat to be found in the hills not far from the village. It is an example of a Buddhist temple from the former Lan Na Kingdom. Many of the old temples had been destroyed during wars with the Thai Kingdom 300 years before. Mekong
The Mekong or Mekong River ( , ) is a transboundary river in East Asia and Southeast Asia.
