John Howie (biographer)
John Howie (14 November 1735 – 5 January 1793) was a Scottish biographer. His best known work was ''Biographia Scoticana'', first published in 1775, which is often called ''The Scots Worthies''. It deals with Christians and particularly Presbyterians especially in their strivings with church and civil authorities. Life John Howie was an East Renfrewshire farmer from Lochgoin, who claimed descent from an Albigensian refugee. The author was the 28th descendant in a direct line, all of whom were called John. Although he was a plain unlettered peasant, cultivating the same farm which his ancestors had occupied for ages, a natural predilection for literary pursuits induced him to take up the task of recording the lives of the martyrs and confessors of Scotland. His family home at Lochgoin Farm was a noted refuge for Covenanters, and was subject to several searches by government soldiers. Steve Howey (footballer)
Steven Norman Howey (born 26 October 1971) is an English football coach, former professional footballer and sports radio presenter. As a player, he was a centre back who notably played in the Premier League for Newcastle United, Manchester City, Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers, before winding up his career with brief stints in the MLS with New England Revolution and in the Football League with Hartlepool United. He was capped four times by England and was part of the Euro 96 squad. Following the end of his playing days, Howey had a brief spell in charge of non-league side Crook Town before coming out of retirement to play for Bishop Auckland whilst serving as a coach. Lee Matthew Howey (born 1 April 1969) is an English former footballer who played primarily as a defender. Howey began his career at Bishop Auckland, before moving to Sunderland where he spent the majority of his career. He later player for Burnley, Northampton Town, Forest Green Rovers and Nuneaton Borough. Career Howey was born in Sunderland. Kate Louise Howey (born 31 May 1973 in Andover, Hampshire, England) is a former elite British judoka.
