Howard Payne University
Howard Payne University is a Private university, private Baptist university in Brownwood, Texas, United States. It is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Noah T. Byers and John David Robnett founded Howard Payne College in 1889. It was named for its first major benefactor, Edward Howard Payne, who was Robnett's brother-in-law. Athletic programs include NCAA Division III football, baseball, softball, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, basketball and tennis. The HPU mascot is a yellow jacket named "Buzzsaw". The university also has extension centers in New Braunfels, Texas and in El Paso, Texas. Edgar Godbold
Edgar S. Godbold (December 2, 1879 – November 21, 1952) was an American educator and clergyman. He was the fourth president of Southern Baptist-affiliated Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana, a position which he held from 1942 until his retirement in 1951. Background A native of Auburn in Lincoln County in southwestern Mississippi, Godbold was the oldest of six children of Thomas Rowan "Tom" Godbold and the former Mary S. "Mollie" Terry. The parents are interred in Amite County, Mississippi. Godbold graduated from Auburn High School and in 1905 and 1910, respectively, received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Baptist-affiliated Mississippi College in Clinton. Campus Pride
Campus Pride is an American national nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded by M. Chad Wilson, Sarah E. Holmes and Shane L. Windmeyer in 2001 which serves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and ally student leaders and/or campus organization in the areas of leadership development, support programs and services to create safer, more inclusive LGBT-friendly colleges and universities. Title IX
Title IX is a landmark federal civil rights law in the United States that was enacted as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government. This is Public Law No. 92‑318, 86 Stat. 235 (June 23, 1972), codified at 20 U.S.C. §§ 1681–1688. Senator Birch Bayh wrote the 37 opening words of Title IX. Gwinn Henry
Gwinn Henry (August 5, 1887 – May 16, 1955) was an American football player, track athlete, coach, and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Howard Payne University, the College of Emporia, the University of Missouri, the University of New Mexico, and the University of Kansas, compiling a career college football record of 100–78–16. Henry was also the head coach of the St. Louis Gunners, an independent professional football team, in 1933.
