Howard B. Chase
Howard Brown Chase, Commander of the Order of the British Empire, CBE (19 May 1884 – 19 February 1973) was a British-born Canadian trade union leader and public official. He was chairman of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation from 1944 to 1945. Life and career Chase was born in Essex, England on 19 May 1884, the son of an American father and an English mother who were visiting at the time. He began his career working on the Northern Pacific Railway at Fargo, North Dakota, Fargo, working his way from the bottom to become a locomotive engineer. He came to Canada in July 1907 and worked as an engineer on the Canadian Northern Railway at Port Arthur, Ontario, Port Arthur, then for Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway, transitioning from freight trains to passenger trains. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. It comprises five classes of awards across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom#Modern honours, knight if male or a dame (title), dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with the order, but are not members of it. The Department of Munitions and Supply was the Canadian federal government ministry responsible for co-ordinating domestic industry during World War II. It was created by the ''Department of Munitions and Supply Act'' with C.D. Howe as its Minister. Arnold Davidson Dunton, (July 4, 1912 – February 7, 1987) was a Canadian educator and public administrator, from 1943 to 1958 chairman of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
