Howard Andrew
Howard Andrew (1934 – January 13, 2021) was an American poker player, best known for his success at the 1976 World Series of Poker (WSOP). He participated in the WSOP Main Event each year from 1974 until his death, the longest such streak of any player. Texas hold 'em (also known as Texas holdem, hold 'em, and holdem) is the most popular variant of the card game of poker. The Hendon Mob are a group of four professional poker players from London, England: Joe Beevers, Barny Boatman, Ross Boatman, and Ram Vaswani. The name of the group was first publicised by the ''Evening Standard'' newspaper in September 2000. Joe Beevers is the only member of the group who actually comes from Hendon, but the others played in Hendon. The Mob first became recognised for their appearances on the televised poker programme '' Late Night Poker'' (1999–2002). 1978 WSOP
The 1978 World Series of Poker (WSOP) was a series of poker tournaments held in May 1978 at Binion's Horseshoe, and was the first WSOP that was not a winner-take-all prize. Instead the tournament had a progressive prize structure, as follows 50 percent for the Winner then 20 for second, 15 for third, 10 for fourth, and 5 percent for fifth place. Events There were ten preliminary events at the 1978 World Series of Poker. Future Poker Hall of Famer Chip Reese won his first WSOP bracelet in the 1978 WSOP. Main Event There were 42 entrants to the main event. Each paid $10,000 to enter the tournament. World Series Of Poker Bracelet
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet is considered the most coveted non-monetary prize a poker player can win. Since 1976, a bracelet has been awarded to the winner of every event at the annual WSOP. Even if the victory occurred before 1976, WSOP championships are now counted as "bracelets". During the first years of the WSOP, only a handful of bracelets were awarded each year. In 1990, there were only 14 bracelet events. By 2000, that number increased to 24. As the popularity of poker has increased during the 2000s, the number of events has likewise increased. In 2011, 58 bracelets were awarded at the WSOP, seven at the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE), and one to the WSOP National Circuit Champion. This brought the total number of bracelets awarded up to 959.
