"How Can I Keep from Singing?" is an American folksong originating as a Christianity, Christian hymn. The author of the lyrics was known only as 'Pauline T', and the original tune was composed by American Baptist minister Robert Lowry (hymn writer), Robert Lowry. The song is frequently, though erroneously, cited as a traditional Quaker or Shakers, Shaker hymn. The original composition has now entered into the public domain, and appears in several hymnals and song collections, both in its original form and with a revised text that omits most of the explicitly Christian content and adds a verse about solidarity in the face of oppression. Though it was not originally a Quaker hymn, Quakers adopted it as their own in the twentieth century and use it widely today. Singing The Living Tradition
''Singing the Living Tradition'' is a hymnal published by the Unitarian Universalist Association. History First published in 1993 by the Hymnbook Resources Commission of the UUA, it was meant to be much more inclusive in both gender references, multicultural sources, and a wider number of religious inspirations. According to Jason Shelton, ''Singing the Living Tradition'' was the first standard denominational hymnbook to include songs from Unitarians in Eastern Europe, spirituals from the African American tradition, folk and popular songs, music of major, non-Christian religious traditions, and chants and rounds gathered from the various traditions of the world. "Book of Days" is a song by Irish musician Enya. The original version, included on her 1991 album '' Shepherd Moons'', is sung in Irish Gaelic. The subsequent 1992 single version is bilingual, with new English lyrics; this version was recorded for Ron Howard's film '' Far and Away'', and scenes from the film feature in the video. The bilingual English-Irish version replaced the original pure Gaelic version on subsequent pressings of ''Shepherd Moons'' from mid-1992 onwards, making the original recording relatively rare. Nicky Ryan
Nicholas Dominick Ryan (born 14 July 1946) is an Irish music producer, recording engineer, and manager. He is best known as the longtime business and recording partner for the singer, songwriter and musician Enya alongside his wife, poet and lyricist Roma Ryan. Born and raised in Dublin, Ryan gained initial recognition in the 1970s and 1980s for his work with several artists including Gary Moore, Planxty, Christy Moore and Clannad. Roma Shane Ryan (born 20 January 1950) is an Irish writer, poet, and lyricist, who lives in Killiney, Ireland, with her husband Nicky Ryan. She is the primary lyricist for the singer Enya, who has stated that the importance of the Ryans' contributions is such that without them, Enya would not exist. Robert Wadsworth Lowry
Robert Lowry (March 12, 1826 – November 25, 1899) was an American preacher who became a popular writer of gospel music in the mid-to-late 19th century. His best-known hymns include " Shall We Gather at the River", "Christ Arose!", "How Can I Keep from Singing?" and " Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus". Born in Philadelphia, Lowry studied at the University at Lewisburg and entered the Baptist ministry in 1854.
