Hoverla
Mount Hoverla (Ukrainian language, Ukrainian and ), at , is the highest mountain in Ukraine and part of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The mountain is located in the Eastern Beskids, in the Chornohora region. The slopes are covered with beech and spruce forests, above which there is a belt of sub-alpine meadows called ''polonyna (montane meadow), polonyna'' in Ukrainian. The main spring of the Prut River is on the eastern slope. The name is most likely of Romanian origin and means 'difficult ascent.' Some sources offer a Hungarian word for a 'snow fortress' as the origin, however this claim lacks logical evidence. Hoverla is composed of sandstone. The date of the first ascent is unknown. Prut
The Prut (also spelled in English as Pruth; , ) is a river in Eastern Europe. It is a left tributary of the Danube, and is long. Part of its course forms Romania's border with Moldova and Ukraine. Characteristics The Prut originates on the eastern slope of Mount Hoverla, in the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine ( Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast). At first, the river flows to the north. Near Yaremche it turns to the northeast, and near Kolomyia to the south-east. Having reached the border between Moldova and Romania, it turns even more to the south-east, and then to the south. Chornohora
Chornohora () is the highest mountain range in Ukraine, Western Ukraine. It is within the Polonynian Beskids, a subgroup of the mountain group of Eastern Beskids of the Outer Eastern Carpathians, Eastern Beskids, which in turn is part of the Outer Eastern Carpathians. Description The range is located on the administrative border between Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia Oblast, Zakarpattia oblasts. It is adjacent to the Gorgany range. Zarosliak
Zarosliak () is a high mountain sports training resort near town of Vorokhta (Yaremche city), Ukraine. It is located within the Carpathian National Nature Park at the foot of mount Hoverla. The resort is smaller than the nearly located Bukovel and more sports oriented. History Since 1880 in place of a modern sports resort existed a tourist resort under the name "Heinrich Hoffbauer Tatra Polish Association". Heinrich Hoffbauer was known for creating the first tourist route over the Chornohora Ridge. During 1911-18 the resort suffered from fire and military conflicts of the World War I and was completely devastated. It was revived in 1923-27 and until the Soviet invasion was accepting 120-150 visitors a day. During the World War II it was destroyed once again and for some time became forgotten. Western Ukraine or West Ukraine (, ) refers to the western territories of Ukraine. Polonyna (Ukrainian language, Ukrainian and ; ; ) is a specific, regionally-focused geographic term, that is used as a designation for areas of montane meadows (a landform type) in the upper subalpine or alpine zones of the Carpathian Mountains.
