Hotel Memling
The Hotel Memling is a five-star hotel in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. History Hotel Memling was built between 1937 and 1964, in Léopoldville (modern-day Kinshasa) in Belgian Congo by Sabena, the former Belgian airline, offering accommodation to its passengers and clients. It is located near the river in the neighborhood that is today known as Gombe, in the center of the city, between Boulevard du 30 juin and the Grand Market of Kinshasa. The hotel, modernised by numerous renovations since 1964, including in 1989 by architectural firm Henri Montois and after the 1991 and 1993 Kinshasa riots, now has a number of rooms, banquet halls and conference rooms. Along with Grand Hotel of Kinshasa and the Hotel Venus, it is one of the most famous and prestigious hotels in the city. Gombe (formerly known as Kalina), also known as La Gombe, or Downtown Kinshasa, is one of the Communes of Kinshasa, 24 communes of Kinshasa, in the western part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Hans Memling
Hans Memling (also spelled Memlinc; – 11 August 1494) was a German-Flemish people, Flemish painter who worked in the tradition of Early Netherlandish painting. Born in the Middle Rhine region, he probably spent his childhood in Mainz. During his apprenticeship as a painter he moved to the Netherlands and spent time in the Brussels workshop of Rogier van der Weyden. In 1465 he was made a citizen of Bruges, where he became one of the leading artists and the master of a large workshop. A tax document from 1480 lists him among the wealthiest citizens. Memling's religious works often incorporated donor portraits of the clergymen, aristocrats, and burgher (title), burghers (bankers, merchants, and politicians) who were his patrons. These portraits built upon the styles which Memling learned in his youth. He married Anna de Valkenaere sometime between 1470 and 1480, and they had three children. The Boulevard du 30 Juin ("Boulevard of June 30th") is a major 5‑km street in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It is the city center's main transport artery, connecting the southern area of La Gombe with Kintambo and the Ngaliema to the west.
