Hostwriter
Hostwriter is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that serves as an open network to help journalists to easily collaborate across borders. It connects journalists for the purpose of seeking and offering help, whether in the form of story collaboration, local advice or accommodation. Hostwriter was founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 2013 by German journalists Tamara Anthony, Tabea Grzeszyk and Sandra Zistl. Because these co-founders knew the difficulties journalists faced when trying to network across their city, or even their country, they built a platform that would make it easier. The idea for the organization grew from co-founder Tabea Grzeszyk's experience using CouchSurfing for her trip to Turkey, Lebanon and Syria in 2010. General Data Protection Regulation
The General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), abbreviated GDPR, is a European Union regulation on information privacy in the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). The GDPR is an important component of EU privacy law and human rights law, in particular Article 8(1) of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. It also governs the transfer of personal data outside the EU and EEA. The GDPR's goals are to enhance individuals' control and rights over their personal information and to simplify the regulations for international business. Transparency International e.V. (TI) is a German registered association founded in 1993 by former employees of the World Bank. Sylke Tempel (30 May 1963 – 5 October 2017) was a German writer and journalist. At the time of her death, she had been the editor-in-chief of the foreign policy magazine '' Internationale Politik'' since 2008. Biography Tempel was born in Bayreuth, a town in the Free State of Bavaria. She studied history, political science and Jewish studies at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, prior to receiving a scholarship in New York between 1989 and 1991. She gained a PhD from Bundeswehr University Munich where she served as an assistant to Michael Wolffsohn. Beginning her journalistic career in 1993, she worked in Israel as a Middle East correspondent. CouchSurfing
CouchSurfing is a hospitality exchange service by which users can request free short-term homestays or interact with other people who are interested in travel. It is accessible via a website and mobile app. It uses a subscription business model, and while hosts are not allowed to charge for lodging, members in some countries must pay a fee to access the platform. History Conception (1999–2004) Couchsurfing was conceived by computer programmer and New Hampshire native Casey Fenton in 1999, when he was 21 years old. The idea arose after Fenton found a cheap flight from Boston to Iceland but did not have lodging. Fenton hacked into a database of the University of Iceland and randomly e-mailed 1,500 students asking for a homestay.
