Host State Act (Switzerland)
The Host State Act (HSA) is a Swiss federal law that governs the granting of privileges, immunities and financial support to foreign representations, as well as to international organizations and conferences it hosts on its territory. It was adopted on 22 June 2007 by the Federal Assembly and came into force on 1 January 2008. Scope The HSA allows the confederation to grant a wide range of privileges, immunities, and facilities to eligible institutions. The Federal Assembly, also known as the Swiss Parliament, is the federal bicameral parliament of Switzerland. It comprises the 200-seat National Council and the 46-seat Council of States. It meets in Bern in the Federal Palace. The houses have identical powers. Members of both houses represent the cantons, but, whereas seats in the National Council are distributed in proportion to population, each canton has two seats in the Council of States, except the six ' half-cantons', which have one seat each.
