Hoss (album)
''Hoss'' is Lagwagon's third album, released on November 21, 1995, by Fat Wreck Chords. It was produced by Ryan Greene. This is the last Lagwagon album to feature drummer Derrick Plourde before his departure in 1996 (and subsequently his death in 2005) and guitarist Shaun Dewey before his departure in 1997. They would be replaced temporarily by Ken Stringfellow (The Posies) on guitar, and permanently by Dave Raun (RKL) on drums. The cover hosts a photo of Dan Blocker as his famous character Eric "Hoss" Cartwright from the Western television show ''Bonanza''. The album was also supported by a 1995 tour. Some footage of the tour can be seen in the music video for the song "Razor Burn", a popular song from the album. "Razor Burn" was released to radio on February 1, 2005. Lagwagon is an American punk rock band originally from Goleta, California, just outside Santa Barbara, California, Santa Barbara. They formed in 1989, went on hiatus in 2000, and reunited several times over the years. Their name comes from the band's tour van, which can be seen on the back cover of their 1994 second album ''Trashed (album), Trashed''. The band has 12 releases through Fat Wreck Chords: nine studio albums, one EP, one live album and a collection of B-sides, compilation tracks and demos. Lagwagon has never had, nor have they seemed to pursue, strong mainstream success, but they do have a devoted Underground music, underground following in North America, Europe and Asia. Their moderate success reflected a growing interest in punk rock during the 1990s, along with fellow California bands Rancid (band), Rancid, Green Day and The Offspring. Ken Stringfellow
Kenneth Stuart Stringfellow (born October 30, 1968) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and producer. Best known for his work with The Posies, R.E.M., and the re-formed Big Star, Stringfellow's discography includes more than 200 albums. Early life and education Stringfellow was born in Hollywood, California. His father, a television executive, relocated the family frequently as his career developed, and Stringfellow went to elementary schools in New York, Chicago, and Detroit. After his parents divorced in 1978, he moved to Bellingham, Washington. In high school, Stringfellow, who had learned to play piano at nine and guitar at 11, met Jon Auer, with whom he would later form The Posies. Stringfellow attended college at the University of Washington, where he and Auer remained in touch, trading cassettes of songs. Randall Joseph Cape (born November 16, 1966) is an American singer and musician. Active since 1989, Cape is best known as the frontman of the Punk rock in California, California punk rock band Lagwagon. Cape released his first solo album, ''Bridge (Joey Cape album), Bridge'', in 2008. His second album ''Doesn't Play Well with Others'', was self-released in 2011, after he released each song on the album each month of 2010, collecting them all on CD and vinyl in the end of 2010. ''Bonanza'' is an American Western television series that ran on NBC from September 12, 1959, to January 16, 1973. Bobby Dan Davis Blocker (December 10, 1928 – May 13, 1972) was an American television actor and Korean War veteran, who played Hoss Cartwright in the NBC Western fiction, Western television series ''Bonanza''. Dave Raun (born June 7, 1970) a resident of Fresno, California, is the drummer for the seminal California punk rock band Lagwagon. He also filled in on drums for a short period for Sean "SC" Sellers of Good Riddance. Additionally, Raun drums for the punk rock cover band/supergroup Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, with fellow Lagwagon member Joey Cape. The Posies
The Posies were an American rock band. The band was formed in 1986 in Bellingham, Washington, United States, by primary songwriters Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow. Their music has its origins in Merseybeat and the Hollies. They are influenced by Hüsker Dü, XTC, Elvis Costello and Squeeze. The band split up in October 2021, following several allegations of sexual misconduct made against bandmember Ken Stringfellow. Skate punk (also known as skatecore and skate rock) is a skateboarding, skater subculture and punk rock Music genre, subgenre that developed in the 1980s.
