Horseshoe Island is an island in Green Bay in Door County, Wisconsin. The island is located offshore from Peninsula State Park and is part of the state park. The French explorer Jean Nicolet reportedly landed on the island. Door County is the easternmost county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 census, its population was 30,066. Its seat of government is Sturgeon Bay. Gibraltar is a town in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,228 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated communities of Fish Creek and Juddville are located in the town. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 151.4 square miles (392.2 km), of which, 33.8 square miles (87.7 km) of it is land and 117.6 square miles (304.6 km) of it (77.65%) is water. Green Bay (Lake Michigan)
Green Bay is an arm of Lake Michigan, located along the south coast of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and the east coast of Wisconsin. It is separated from the rest of the lake by the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin, the Garden Peninsula in Michigan, and the chain of islands between them, all formed by the Niagara Escarpment. Jean Nicolet (Nicollet), Sieur de Belleborne (159829 October 1642) was a French ''coureur des bois'' noted for exploring Lake Michigan, Mackinac Island, Green Bay, and being the first European to set foot in what is now the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Early life Nicolet (Nicollet) was born in Cherbourg, France, in the late 1590s, the son of Thomas Nicollet, who was "messenger ordinary of the King between Paris and Cherbourg", and Marguerite de Lamer. They were members of the Roman Catholic Church. Ephraim ( ) is a village in Door County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located across Eagle Harbor from Peninsula State Park. The population was 345 at the 2020 census. The village is known for its white buildings, its views of the bluffs across Eagle Harbor, and its shoreline along Green Bay. History The village was founded in 1853 by the Reverend Andreas Iverson as a Moravian religious community. The steeples of the Ephraim Moravian Church and the Free Evangelical Lutheran Church-Bethania Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation are the landmarks of the village as seen from Eagle Harbor.
