An acoustic horn or waveguide is a tapered sound guide designed to provide an acoustic impedance match between a sound source and free air. This has the effect of maximizing the efficiency with which sound waves from the particular source are transferred to the air. Conversely, a horn can be used at the receiving end to optimize the transfer of sound from the air to a receiver. Acoustic horns are found in nature in the form of the burrows constructed by male mole crickets to amplify their song. Eagle Island () is an island long and wide, rising to on the NE side. It is the largest island in the archipelago which lies between Trinity Peninsula and Vega Island. Eagle Island is separated from the Antarctic mainland by the 1.77 km wide Aripleri Passage. It is volcanic in origin, having been K-Ar dated 1.7 ± 0.2 and 2.0 ± 0.2 million years old. The river Horn (, ；, ) is a left tributary of Schwarzbach flowing through the department of Moselle, in northeastern France, and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in southwestern Germany. Horn is a former civil parish, now in the parish of Exton and Horn, in the county of Rutland, England. In 2001 it had a population of 9, which was included in the civil parish of Empingham at the 2011 census. The parish is part of the Exton Hall estate of the Earls of Gainsborough. The Horn River is a river in the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is a major tributary of the Mackenzie River. The river gives the name to the Horn River Formation, a shale deposit of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. The Horn River Basin refers to the extent of the Horn River Formation in the subsurface, and is not defined by the Horn River watershed. Course The river originates south of the Great Bear Lake. It flows south-east through a series of rapids north of the Horn Plateau, then has a meandered flow. Randsfjorden is Norway's fourth-largest lake with an area of . Its volume is estimated at just over , and its greatest depth is . The lake is located at an elevation of above sea level.
