Greece was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 with the song "", composed by Yiorgos Palaiokastritis, with lyrics by Yiorgos Papayiannakis, and performed by Christos Callow. The Greek participating broadcaster, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), selected its entry through a national final. Before Eurovision National final The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) held the national on 23 March 1990 at its television studios in Athens, hosted by Olina Xenopoulou. The songs were presented as video clips and the winning song was chosen by a panel of experts. At Eurovision "" was performed second on the night (following 's " Bandido" by Azúcar Moreno and preceding 's "Macédomienne" by Philippe Lafontaine). At the close of voting, it had received 11 points, placing 19th in a field of 22. Up to this point, this was the worst result for Greece in the contest, and remained as so until 1998. Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation
The Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (), commonly shortened to ERT (), is the state-owned public radio and television broadcaster of Greece. History Overview ERT began broadcasting in 1938 as the Radio Broadcasting Service or YRE (). Following a government decision, the original company was abolished on 11 June 2013, with its 2,656 employees protesting against the closure and continuing broadcasting via a satellite transmission using European Broadcasting Union equipment. The Eurovision Song Contest 1990 was the 35th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 5 May 1990 in the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Yugoslavia. Dimitrios Makulis (''Greek'': Τζίμης Μακούλης; 12 April 1935 in Athens – 28 October 2007 in Athens), known as Jimmy Makulis, was a Greek singer who had a successful career in German-speaking markets in the 1950s and 1960s, and is known for his participation on behalf of Austria in the 1961 Eurovision Song Contest. Adamantia Stamatopoulou (; born 13 April 1966), known as Mando (), is a Greek singer and songwriter. She was born and raised in Piraeus by her jazz pianist father, Nikos Stamatopoulos and a classic soprano opera mother, Mary Apergi. Azúcar Moreno (; Spanish for "brown sugar") is a Spanish music duo composed of sisters Antonia "Toñi" and Encarnación "Encarna" Salazar. The duo has sold more than three million albums and singles since 1984 domestically, and became famous in Europe, the United States and Latin America in the 1990s, with approximately twelve million albums sold worldwide. Philippe Lafontaine (born 24 May 1955) is a Belgian singer and composer. Biography Lafontaine was born in Gosselies, Belgium. He spent a short time in a Jesuit college that he left at 17 to pursue a career in music. His first successes came from the writing and recording of jingles for television commercials, including Stella Artois and Coca-Cola.
