"Hoops" is a song by Australian alternative rock band the Rubens. It was the second single released from their second studio album, ''Hoops (album), Hoops''. The track was voted in at number 1 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2015. Band member Sam Margin said, "'Hoops' came as we were getting mixes on what we thought was the finished album. We kept writing just for something to keep us occupied, but when this one came up we felt it had to be on the album. It's about being in a relationship with someone who does damaging things to keep you close, when really their actions are pointless because you love them despite it all." The Rubens are an Australian alternative rock band from Menangle, New South Wales. The band comprises the three Margin brothers, Izaac, Sam and Elliott, Scott Baldwin and William Zeglis. Eric J Dubowsky also known as Eric J, is a Grammy, Emmy, ARIA, and APRA award-winning mixer, songwriter and record producer. Eric grew up in the New York City suburb of Tenafly, New Jersey and graduated from Tenafly High School. After attending Syracuse University he worked at Greene St. Recording in New York City, the home of early hip-hop artists Run-DMC, and Public Enemy. The 2015 Triple J Hottest 100 was announced on January 26, 2016. It is the 23rd countdown of the most popular songs of the year, as chosen by the listeners of Australian radio station Triple J. Voting commenced on 9 December 2015, and closed on 22 January 2016. Voters nominated ten songs that were released between December 2014 and November 2015 and submitted them through the Triple J website.
