Hooglede (; ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of and Hooglede proper. On January 1, 2006, Hooglede had a total population of 9,831. The total area is 37.84 km2 which gives a population density of 260 inhabitants per km2. Hooglede-Gits was the site of the 2007 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships. Hooglede houses one of the 4 German War Cemeteries in Belgium, the Hooglede German War Cemetery. Economy The Deceuninck company is based in Hooglede, as is MOL Trucks. Politics From 1989 till 2012, politics in Hooglede were dominated by the cartel SAMEN (consisting of sp.a, N-VA and Open Vld). In 2012, the cooperation within SAMEN was stopped. Hooglede German War Cemetery
The Hooglede German war cemetery (' in German) is a military cemetery in the Belgian town of Hooglede, six kilometer northwest of Roeselare. It is located at the east side of Hooglede. It contains 8,241 buried German soldiers from World War I. Military incidents On October 19, 1914, Hooglede was occupied by German soldiers. The Hooglede cemetery in the Beverenstraat arose in 1917 when the cemetery in Hooglede was no longer sufficient for the mounting deathtoll. There were some new cemeteries, including "Ehrenfriedhof Hooglede Ost Beveren" along the street. After the liberation by the French, approximately 4100 German soldiers were buried in the soil of Hooglede. Care of graves The German cemeteries were supervised by the Belgian military service of tombs, but in 1926 all the cemeteries were the responsibility of the Amtlicher Deutscher Gräberdienst. Staden
Staden (; ) is a village and rural municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality has around 11 000 inhabitants. In the local West-Flemish dialect, the ''d'' is not pronounced, which results in ''Stoan'' as pronunciation. Geography In 1976, Staden fused with the smaller villages of Oostnieuwkerke and Westrozebeke into a single municipality. As Staden was the bigger village, its name was used for the resulting municipality. Next to those three village centres, there are also a number of smaller hamlets. At the boundary between Staden, Westrozebeke and Poelkapelle, you can find the hamlet Vijfwegen. And on the boundary between Oostnieuwkerke and Hooglede, you can find the hamlet Sleihage. Roeselare (; ; ) is a Belgian city and municipality in the Flemish province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Roeselare proper and the towns of Beveren, Oekene and Rumbeke. The name of the city is derived from two Germanic words meaning "reed" and "open space", ''i.e.'', a marsh in a forest glade.
