Hong Kong Astronomical Society
The Hong Kong Astronomical Society (HKAS) is the first public Hong Kong astronomical body, for amateur astronomers and other interested individuals. The primary objectives of the HKAS are to promote popular science of astronomy and other related sciences; raise public awareness of astronomy and other related topics such as light pollution; offer astronomical seminars, and provide astronomical training courses to schools and companies. Current mission of the society is to enhance and share humanity's scientific understanding of the universe as a diverse and inclusive astronomical community. Wah Kiu Yat Po
''Wah Kiu Yat Po'', or ''Overseas Chinese Daily News'' (), was a Chinese-language newspaper based in Hong Kong. It was published between 1925 and 1995. It was founded by Shum Wai-yau after the Shum family took control of the company. History The newspaper was published under the name ''Chinese General Merchants Daily'' from 1919 to 1923 when the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and '' Daily Press'' co-owned the company. The contract later ended and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce published the paper on its own. In 1925, it was sold to Shum Wai-yau. It was renamed ''Wah Kiu Yat Po'' and began publishing on 5 June 1925. In December 1941, the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong began. ''Wah Kiu Yat Po'' was one of the few newspapers that were allowed to continue publishing. The newspaper used different writing strategies to pass censorship review by the Japanese military government and secretly convey anti-Japanese messages. HD 212771, also named Lionrock, is a solitary star in the southern zodiac constellation Aquarius. It has an apparent magnitude of 7.60, making it readily visible with binoculars but not the naked eye. Parallax measurements place the object at a distance of 364 light-years, and is currently receding with a radial velocity of . IAU100 NameExoWorlds
NameExoWorlds (also known as IAU NameExoWorlds) were various projects managed by the International Astronomical Union (I.A.U.) to encourage names to be submitted for astronomical objects, notably exoplanets. The accepted names would later be considered for official adoption by the organization. Projects The first such project (NameExoWorlds I), in 2015, regarded the naming of stars and exoplanets. 573,242 votes were submitted by members by the time the contest closed on October 31, 2015, and the names of 31 exoplanets and 14 stars were selected from these. Many of the names chosen were based on world history, mythology and literature.
