''Homespun'' is a demo album by XTC. It was released by Cooking Vinyl and Idea Records. A companion to ''Apple Venus Volume 1'', it has the same running order as its parent album. It was reissued in 2005 as a part of ''Apple Box''. Colin Moulding
Colin Ivor Moulding (born 17 August 1955) is an English bassist, singer, and songwriter who was one of the core members of the rock band XTC. Moulding wrote their first three charting UK singles: " Life Begins at the Hop" (1979), " Making Plans for Nigel" (1979) and " Generals and Majors" (1980). Early life Moulding was born in Swindon on 17 August 1955 to working class parents. His father, Charlie, chiefly worked for British Rail and his mother, Vera, worked part-time as a laundry woman. While his childhood was happy, he was described as being "painfully shy". In 1970, Moulding heard " All Right Now" by Free, who became his favorite band and spurred him to take up the bass guitar. Moulding later said, "In my early teens I had pretty high hopes of doing something academic, but once I'd discovered music it all went out the window. Apple Box
Apple boxes are wooden boxes or crates of varying sizes with holes on each end used mainly in film production. These boxes are specialized pieces of equipment belonging to the grip department, and should not be confused with simple crates, other boxes, or boxes for apples. Uses Used to temporarily prop up or support just about anything, apple boxes are one of the most ubiquitous and useful pieces of equipment on a film set. They can be used to prop up furniture and light stands, for leveling camera dolly track, or to provide temporary seats, workbenches, or stepladders. The need often arises to make an actor appear taller, either because of their height, or to fit with the composition of a particular shot. ''Apple Venus Volume 1'' is the thirteenth studio album by the English rock music, rock band XTC, released on February 17, 1999. It was the first on the band's own Idea Records label, distributed through Cooking Vinyl in the United Kingdom and TVT Records in the United States. The album relies heavily on strings, acoustic guitars and keyboards, expanding upon the more orchestral approach developed on the group's previous LP ''Nonsuch (album), Nonsuch'' (1992), whilst its lyrics reflect themes of paganism, middle age, romance and rebirth. ''Apple Venus Volume 1'' was met with critical acclaim and moderate commercial success, peaking at number 42 on the UK Albums Chart and number 106 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 in the US. Bandleader Andy Partridge, who wrote most of ''Apple Venus'', characterised it as "orchustic" (a portmanteau of "orchestral" and "acoustic"). A demo is a way for a musician to approximate their ideas in a fixed format, such as cassette tape, compact disc, or digital audio files, and to thereby pass along those ideas to record labels, producers, or other artists. Andy Partridge
Andrew John Partridge (born 11 November 1953) is an English guitarist, singer-songwriter and record producer best known for co-founding the band XTC. He and Colin Moulding each acted as a songwriter and frontman for XTC, with Partridge writing and singing about two-thirds of the group's material. While XTC were a formative British New wave music, new wave group, Partridge's songwriting drew heavily from 1960s pop and Psychedelic music, psychedelia and his style gradually shifted to more traditional pop, often with pastoral themes. The band's only UK top 10 hit, "Senses Working Overtime", was written by Partridge. Partridge is sometimes regarded as the "godfather" of the 1990s Britpop movement. Since the 1980s, he has worked, written with or produced for many other recording artists, including collaborative albums with Peter Blegvad, Harold Budd and Robyn Hitchcock. Reception Allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine explains "''Homegrown'', the demo companion to ''Wasp Star'', takes great lengths to show how the songs were written.
