Home Team Academy
The Home Team Academy (HTA) is the training institute for various organisations of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Singapore), Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore, including the Singapore Police Force, the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Singapore Prison Service, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, and the Internal Security Department (Singapore), Internal Security Department, amongst other agencies. Located at 501 Choa Chu Kang Road#Old Choa Chu Kang Road, Old Choa Chu Kang Road, it cost about S$266 million to build. It was operational since January 2006, had an operational launch in April 2006, and was officially opened on 2 September 2006 with an open house and concert. Thomson Road, Singapore
Thomson Road is a major trunk road linking Singapore's central business district with the northern suburban areas of the country. The road is one of the longest in Singapore, starting from Novena in the south towards MacRitchie Reservoir, before continuing northwards as Upper Thomson Road towards Yishun and Sembawang. Etymology The road was named after John Turnbull Thomson, who was the Government Surveyor and Chief Engineer of the Straits Settlements from 1841 to 1853. History Thomson Road was constructed to connect the city centre to the airport and naval base at Seletar. The road was originally known as Thomson Road, after which the name was Seletar Road. National Civil Defence Cadet Corps
The National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC) is a youth national uniformed group formed in 2005. The creation of this uniformed group was initiated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Singapore in response to the need for the young leaders of tomorrow to have a firm pillar and grounding in Singapore's firm belief of Total Defence. Along with the National Police Cadet Corps, the corps has its Headquarters at the Home Team Academy. History In 2004, the NCDCC was announced to be the ninth uniformed group (UG) co-curricular activity in Singapore and to be started in selected secondary schools in the first half of 2005. With the NCDCC, the Ministry of Education planned to have one in three students involved in a uniformed group in every school within five years. National Police Cadet Corps
The National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) is one of the national uniformed group for youths between age 13 to 17 in Singapore. The organisation is supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Established in 1959, it trains young boys and girls in the values of law enforcement and public safety. Brief history Following Singapore's successful elections of 1959, the new government, among other policies, began to pressure the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to form a youth unit on the lines of the long serving military cadet organisations of the island. On 8 May that year, the NPCC was born with then-Commissioner E Alan G Blades approving the formation of the first police cadet unit, this day is annually marked as NPCC Day. The Old Police Academy (abbreviation: OPA; formerly known as the Police Academy (alternate: TRACOM), Police Training School and Police Depot) is a defunct police training school-facility located at 1, Mount Pleasant Road, off Thomson Road in Singapore.
