''Home for Orphans'' is a compilation album by the Reigning Sound. It was released in 2005 on Sympathy for the Record Industry. The album features the original Reigning Sound lineup of Greg Cartwright on lead vocals and guitar; Alex Greene on organ, piano, guitar, and backing vocals; Jeremy Scott on bass, and backing vocals; and Greg Roberson on drums This album mainly consists of slower, moodier outtakes from the Too Much Guitar recording sessions, as well as a some covers, including "Without You," a Gene Clark cover. An alternate version of "If Christmas Can't Bring You Home" (originally released on a 45rpm by Norton Records), a Reigning Sound original holiday song, also appears. Reigning Sound
Reigning Sound was an American rock and roll band originally based in Memphis, Tennessee, Memphis, Tennessee, United States. As of 2019, along with fronting Reigning Sound, Greg Cartwright also reformed his past band Greg Oblivian and the Tip Tops. In 2020, he also reformed with the original "Memphis lineup" of Reigning Sound once again playing shows with the outfit's first incarnation. In a June 8, 2022, message on the group's Facebook page, Cartwright formally announced the end of Reigning Sound. Garage Punk (fusion Genre)
Garage punk is a rock music fusion genre combining the influences of garage rock, punk rock, and often other genres; the genre took shape in the indie rock underground between the late 1980s and early 1990s. Bands drew heavily from 1960s garage rock, stripped-down 1970s punk rock, and Detroit proto-punk; it also often incorporated numerous other styles into their approach, such as power pop, 1960s girl groups, hardcore punk, blues, early R&B and surf rock. Sympathy For The Record Industry
Sympathy for the Record Industry (also known as Sympathy Records or Sympathy 4 the R.I.) is a mainly independent garage rock and punk label formed in 1988 by John Mermis, known as Long Gone John. Notable artists who started on Sympathy and went on to gain mainstream success include The White Stripes, Hole, and The Electrocutes (the first Donnas incarnation). History Long Gone John is the owner and CEO. He is an avid record collector with more than 10,100 records in his collection. He also owns Necessaries Toy Foundation, a company that creates 18-24 inch figures. Long Gone John also operates Sympathetic Press, a book publishing company that prints books with rock and roll themes. ''Too Much Guitar'' is the third album by the Reigning Sound. It was released in 2004 by In the Red Records. Originally, bandleader Greg Cartwright toyed with the idea of calling the album ''PILL-POPPING MOM ONLY TAKING WHAT SHE NEEDS TO GET BY,'' a headline which he had seen in a Commercial Appeal medical advice column, but scrapped the idea when the album began to change direction musically The album was recorded after original member and guitarist/keyboard player Alex Greene left the band in 2003, leaving lead vocalist and guitarist Greg Cartwright, bassist Jeremy Scott, and drummer Greg Roberson to carry the album through to completion as a three-piece. Greg Cartwright
Gregory Johnathon Cartwright, also known by his stage name Greg Oblivian (born March 18, 1972), is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Memphis, Tennessee. From 2001 to 2022 he fronted Reigning Sound which was signed to Merge Records. After moving away from Memphis in the mid-2000s, he has since lived with his family in Asheville, North Carolina. Cartwright is also a founding member of the Memphis '90s garage bands The Compulsive Gamblers, The Oblivians and Greg Oblivian & the Tip Tops. , Cartwright has reformed his past band Greg Oblivian & the Tip Tops and is playing shows. An outtake is a portion of a work (usually a film or music recording) that is removed in the editing process and not included in the work's final, publicly released version. In the digital era, significant outtakes have been appended to CD and DVD reissues of many albums and films as bonus tracks or features, in film often, but not always, for the sake of humor. Harold Eugene Clark (November 17, 1944 – May 24, 1991) was an American singer-songwriter and founding member of the folk rock band the Byrds. He was the Byrds' principal songwriter between 1964 and early 1966, writing most of the band's best-known originals from this period, including " I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better", " She Don't Care About Time", " Eight Miles High" and " Set You Free This Time". Norton Records is an American independent record label founded by musicians Miriam Linna and Billy Miller in 1986. The label concentrates on releasing rock, rockabilly, primitive music, punk, garage rock, and early rhythm and blues. Most of its output, both new releases and reissues, is issued on vinyl. Beginnings Billy Miller first met Miriam Linna while she was drumming for the Cramps in 1976.
