Hohenheim - Prunus Lusitanica
Hohenheim () is one of 18 outer quarters of the city of Stuttgart in the borough of Plieningen that sits on the Filder in central Baden-Württemberg. It was founded in 1782. Geography Hohenheim sits on the Filder, a large and fertile plateau in the center of Baden-Württemberg. Hohenheim forms the Plieningen Municipality of Stuttgart along with Asemwald, Chausseefeld, Plieningen and Steckfeld. The quarter was founded in 1782 when Schloss Hohenheim was constructed on the orders of Charles Eugene of Baden-Württemberg. The University of Hohenheim, as the name might imply, is based here and uses much of Schloss Hohenheim for its campus. Schloss Hohenheim
: ''For the district inside the city of Stuttgart, see Hohenheim.'' Schloss Hohenheim is a manor estate in Stuttgart, eponymous of the Hohenheim city district. The original castle was a fief of the County of Württemberg, recorded for the 12th century. The estate fell into the possession of Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg in 1768, who had it re-built as a Rococo style manor with extensive gardens and residential palace for his future wife, Franziska von Hohenheim. The estate was the main ducal residence during 1772–1797, when it fell to the city of Stuttgart. An ''Agricultural Educational Testing and Model Institution'' was housed here in 1818, and the estate remains in use by the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments of the University of Hohenheim. William I Of Württemberg
William I (german: Friedrich Wilhelm Karl; 27 September 178125 June 1864) was King of Württemberg from 30 October 1816 until his death. Upon William's accession, Württemberg was suffering crop failures and famine in the " Year Without a Summer", in 1816. After taking office, he initiated sweeping reforms, resulting in the approval of the Estates of Württemberg to a constitution on 25 September 1819. In his 48-year reign, the kingdom moved from one that was created from different denominational principalities and a heterogeneous agricultural country, into a constitutional state with a common identity and a well-organised management. Hermann Eckstein
Hermann Ludwig Eckstein (3 August 1847 – 16 January 1893) was a German-born British people, British mining magnate and banker. Life history Born in Hohenheim near Stuttgart, Germany to a Lutheran minister, he received an excellent education. He came to the South African diamond- and goldfields in 1882, and soon acquired a reputation as the resourceful manager of the Phoenix Diamond Mining Company at Du Toit's Pan near Kimberley, Northern Cape, Kimberley. He attracted the attention of Julius Wernher and Alfred Beit and in 1884 joined them in the partnership of Jules Porgès & Co (later Wernher, Beit & Co). In 1885 Beit arranged for Hermann Eckstein and Jim B. Taylor, Jim Taylor, to report on the firm's interests in the Barberton, Mpumalanga, Barberton and De Kaap goldfields, in which they had invested heavily.
