Rhineland-Palatinate
Rhineland-Palatinate ( , ; ; ; ) is a western state of Germany. It covers and has about 4.05 million residents. It is the ninth largest and sixth most populous of the sixteen states. Mainz is the capital and largest city. Other cities are Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Koblenz, Trier, Kaiserslautern, Worms, and Neuwied. It is bordered by North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland, Baden-Württemberg and Hesse and by France, Luxembourg and Belgium. Osburger Hochwald
The Osburger Hochwald ("Osburg Upland Forest") lies southeast of the Osburger Hunsrück and has an area of 75 square kilometres. Together with the Schwarzwälder Hochwald, it forms the ''Hochwald'' or "upland forest" of the Hunsrück, the southwestern part of the Rhenish Massif in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The area belongs to the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. Northeast of the Hochwald are the Idar Forest and Soonwald. At the foot of the Rösterkopf Ruwerspring, rises the River Ruwer, a right tributary of the Moselle. The drainage divide, watershed between the Moselle (Feller Bach and Ruwer (river), Ruwer) and the Saar (river), Saar (Wadrill/Prims) runs through the Osburger Hochwald. The Bundesstraße 52, B 52 federal road and Bundesautobahn 1, A 1 motorway, as well as several local, county and state roads, run through the forest. Hunsrück
The Hunsrück () is a long, triangular, pronounced mountain range, upland in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is bounded by the valleys of the Moselle (river), Moselle-Saar (north-to-west), the Nahe (south), and the Rhine (east). It is continued by the Taunus mountains, past the Rhine and by the Eifel past the Moselle. To the south of the Nahe is a lower, hilly country forming the near bulk of the Palatinate (region), Palatinate region and all of the, smaller, Saarland. Below its north-east corner is Koblenz. As the Hunsrück proceeds east it acquires north-south width and three notable gaps in its southern ridges. In this zone are dendritic drainage, multi-branch headwaters including the Simmerbach ending at Simmertal on the southern edge. This interior is therefore rarely higher than above sea level.
