Hitman (Tommy Monaghan) is a character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Garth Ennis and John McCrea and first appeared in '' The Demon Annual'' #2 before receiving his own series by Ennis and McCrea that ran for 61 issues. Background ''Hitman'' chronicles the exploits of Tommy Monaghan, an ex-Marine Gulf War veteran turned contract killer from the Cauldron, a lower-class Irish district of Gotham City. He first appears in ''The Demon Annual'' #2 (part of the " Bloodlines" crossover in the summer of 1993), when he is attacked and bitten by a Bloodlines parasite called Glonth. Instead of dying, the bite unexpectedly triggers his metagene and grants him x-ray vision and moderate telepathy. John McCrea (comics)
John McCrea (born 1966) is a comic book artist best known for his collaborations with writer Garth Ennis. Career In 1989, after a few years of drawing television and toy tie-ins, he illustrated Ennis's debut, the political series ''Troubled Souls'', in ''Crisis (comic), Crisis'', as well as its sequel, the farce ''For a Few Troubles More''. He later illustrated the series ''Carla Allison'' in ''Deadline magazine, Deadline''. He broke into American comics in 1993, drawing Ennis's run on DC Comics's ''The Demon (comics), The Demon'', followed by its spin-off, ''Hitman (DC Comics), Hitman'', from 1996 to 2001, on which McCrea developed a versatile drawing style equally at home with goofy humour, action, and subtle characterisation. The Joker is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics.
