History Of Saturday Night Live (2000–2005)
The long-running American late-night sketch comedy show ''Saturday Night Live'' (''SNL'') first premiered on NBC on October 11, 1975, and its fiftieth and most recent season premiered on September 28, 2024. Created by Lorne Michaels, who is the original and current showrunner, its history has been shaped by its large and constantly-changing cast of performers, as well as changes in its writing staff from year to year. It has played a prominent role in American popular culture and television since its inception, and changing attitudes towards cultural diversity have been evident particularly in its recent history. Initially called ''NBC's Saturday Night'' and envisioned as something closer to a traditional variety show, the program was developed as a replacement for reruns of ''The Tonight Show'' and quickly became a staple of late-night television. Saturday is the day of the week between Friday and Sunday. No later than the 2nd century, the Romans named Saturday ("Saturn's Day") for the god Saturn (mythology), Saturn. Jean Doumanian
Jean Doumanian (; born 1937) is an American stage, television and film producer. Early life Doumanian was born Jean Karabas and grew up in Chicago, the daughter of Greek immigrant parents. Her father was a restaurateur. She attended the University of Illinois but dropped out as a junior to marry John Doumanian in 1959, a promoter for Capitol Records. While out with her husband, who was scouting new talent in the clubs of Chicago, she met stand-up comedian Woody Allen, who was sharing a billing with Capitol singer Nancy Wilson. A friendship developed after Allen's manager, Jack Rollins, asked the couple to show Allen around Chicago and her husband became Allen's road manager. ''The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson'' is an American television talk show broadcast by NBC. The show was the third installment of ''The Tonight Show''. Hosted by Johnny Carson, it aired from October 1, 1962 to May 22, 1992, replacing ''Tonight Starring Jack Paar'' and was replaced by ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno''.
