Hisingen
Hisingen () is the fifth-largest island of Sweden (after Gotland, Öland, Södertörn and Orust), with an area of . It is a river island, formed by the split of the Göta Älv at Bohus Fortress, Bohus, and is defined to the east and south by the main arm of that river, to the north by the smaller arm (known as the Nordre Älv), and to the west by the Kattegat. The southern part of Hisingen is extensively urbanised, representing the northern suburbs of the city of Gothenburg. The island is divided between the Provinces of Sweden, historical provinces of Västergötland and Bohuslän, but lies entirely within the Counties of Sweden, modern county of Västra Götaland County, Västra Götaland. According to the 2023 census, the island of Hisingen in Sweden has a population of 176,047, making it the second most populous island in Sweden, after Södermalm but before Gotland. Bohuslän () is a Provinces of Sweden, Swedish province in Götaland, on the northernmost part of the country's west coast. It is bordered by Dalsland to the northeast, Västergötland to the southeast, the Skagerrak arm of the North Sea to the west, and the county of Østfold, in Norway, to the north. The (; "River of (the) Geats") is a river that drains lake Vänern into the Kattegat, at the city of Gothenburg, on the western coast of Sweden. It was formed at the end of the last glaciation, as an outflow channel from the Baltic Ice Lake to the Atlantic Ocean and nowadays it has the largest drainage basin in Scandinavia. Eriksberg, Gothenburg
Eriksberg is an area on Hisingen in Gothenburg where Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB had their shipyard until bankruptcy in 1979. For over a century the area was dominated by shipbuilding but a crisis in the 1970s destroyed the industry. Since the collapse of the shipyards, the area has been rebuilt into a modern neighbourhood. The former machinery buildings have been renovated into a hotel with conference facilities. An 84-metre high gantry crane – the Eriksberg crane – stands as a remnant of the area's shipbuilding past. A large grass area, now used for apartment buildings, was used for concerts from 1987 to 1990 (when Ullevi was closed for such concerts). Tumlehed Rock Painting
Tumlehed rock painting (''Hällmålningen i Tumlehed'') is a prehistoric rock art pictograph site, located in Tumlehed on the island of Hisingen, Gothenburg Municipality, Sweden. It is the southernmost recorded rock painting in Sweden and one of few found in the western parts of the country, joined by a few additional ones in the same Bohuslän, province. History Remaining undiscovered until 1974, its period of creation has been estimated to be from between 4200-2500 BCE. Bohus Fortress
Bohus Fortress lies in Kungälv, Bohuslän, Sweden, north east from Hisingen where the Göta river splits into two branches ( north of Gothenburg). It commands the surrounding area from a cliff high, with the river forming a natural moat around it. The fortress used to be situated along the old Norwegian– Swedish border.
