Hizbul Islam ("Islamic Party"), also known as Hizbul Islaami, Hisbi Islam, or Hezb-ul Islam, was a Somalia, Somali Islamist group formed after four Islamist groups merged to oppose the new Transitional Federal Government of Somalia, Transitional Federal Government administration of President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed several weeks after end of the War in Somalia (2006–2009), Ethiopian military occupation of Somalia. The four groups were: Hassan Dahir Aweys, Hassan Aweys' the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia, ARS-A, Jabhatul Islamiya ("Islamic Front"), Hassan Abdullah Hersi al-Turki, Hassan Abdullah Hersi al-Turki's the Mu'askar Ras Kamboni (Ras Kamboni Brigade) and Muaskar Anole, the Marehan (Darod), Marehan clan's Militia and Harti (Darod), Harti clan's militia. The Somali Civil War (; ) is an List of ongoing armed conflicts, ongoing civil war that is taking place in Somalia. It grew out of resistance to the military junta which was led by Siad Barre during the 1980s.
