Al Hirschfeld
Albert Hirschfeld (June 21, 1903 – January 20, 2003) was an American caricaturist best known for his black and white portraits of celebrities and Broadway stars. Personal life Al Hirschfeld was born in 1903 in a two-story duplex at 1313 Carr Street in St. Louis, Missouri, and moved with his family to New York City in 1915, where he received his art training at the National Academy of Design. He married chorus girl Florence Ruth Hobby in 1927; the couple separated in 1932 and divorced in 1943. That same year he married actress Dolly Haas. Haas died in 1994, aged 84. They had one child, a daughter, Nina (b. 1945). In 1996, he married Louise Kerz, a theatre historian (b. 1936). Career In 1924, Hirschfeld traveled to Paris and London, where he studied painting, drawing and sculpture. Desmond Barel Hirshfield, Baron Hirshfield (17 May 1913 – 6 December 1993) was a British accountant and trade union adviser. Born in Birmingham, to a Jewish dentist and a music hall performer, Hirshfield was educated at eight schools, including the City of London School. He became a chartered accountant, senior partner of a firm (Hesketh, Hardy & Hirshfield), and was investment adviser to the Trade Union Congress advising unionists like Frank Cousins and Vic Feather. In 1951 he married Bronia Eisen. From the 1950s he became the consultant of leading Labour Party figures such as Herbert Morrison, Nye Bevan and Harold Wilson. He was the founder and Chairman of the Trades Union Unit Trust Managers Ltd. from 1961 to 1983. James Hirshfield
Vice Admiral James Albert Hirshfield (July 30, 1902 – May 16, 1993) was the sixth Assistant Commandant (now called Vice Commandant) of the United States Coast Guard. During World War II he was the commanding officer of the USCGC Campbell (WPG-32) during a battle with German U-boats, earning the Navy Cross. Early life James Albert Hirshfield was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on 30 July 1902, the son of Eli Albert Hirshfield and Katherine Devine Hirshfield. Jane Hirshfield (born February 24, 1953) is an American poet, essayist, and translator, known as 'one of American poetry's central spokespersons for the biosphere' and recognized as 'among the modern masters,' 'writing some of the most important poetry in the world today.' Jeffrey Lee Hirshfield (born August 22, 1955) is an American jazz drummer. Hirshfield was born in New York City. He studied under Ed Soph. He worked for the Joffrey Ballet in 1976–1977 and then played with Mose Allison (1977–1979). During the 1980s he worked with Red Rodney and Ira Sullivan (1981–1985), Toshiko Akiyoshi (1986–1989), and Bennie Wallace (1987–1990). Alongside Fred Hersch and Steve LaSpina, he was a member of the trio ''Etc.'' during 1988–1991. During this time he also played in a trio with Hersch and Michael Formanek. From 1990 he played with Harold Danko, played in Formanek's Wide Open Spaces project, and played again with LaSpina in a quartet setting. He also worked in a quartet with John Abercrombie and Andy LaVerne early in the 1990s.
