Hiroko Utsumi
is a Japanese anime director, animator, storyboard artist, and manga artist. She is best known for her work with Kyoto Animation, particularly as the original director of '' Free!''. After leaving Kyoto Animation's affiliate company Animation Do, she directed the anime adaptation of ''Banana Fish'' manga, and created and directed '' SK8 the Infinity'' with Bones. ''Free!'' is a Japanese anime television series produced by Kyoto Animation and Animation Do. The series is loosely based on the light novel, , written by Kōji Ōji, which received an honorable mention in the second Kyoto Animation Award contest in 2011 and was published in July 2013. The first season titled, ''Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club'' for international distribution, aired in Japan in 2013; and the second season titled, ''Free! - Eternal Summer'', aired in 2014. is a 2001 Japanese mystery novel written by Honobu Yonezawa. It is the first volume of the series. Five additional volumes have been published between 2002 and 2016. Dororo (2019 TV Series)
is a 2019 anime television series produced by Tezuka Productions and animated by MAPPA based on the manga of the same name by Osamu Tezuka, and is the second anime adaptation after the 1969 series. The adaptation departs from the source material in several ways, but follows the basic premise of the manga: a young '' ronin'', named Hyakkimaru, along with a young child, Dororo, must face multiple demons in Sengoku-era Japan who have stolen his various body parts in order to get them back. The main innovation was the new portrayal of Hyakkimaru, a weaker samurai than the one written by Tezuka with director Kazuhiro Furuhashi among other staff member conceiving the alternate of take of the young swordsman becoming a new person following his journey with Dororo in a similar manner to buddy films.
