Hiro Yamamoto
Hiro D. Yamamoto (born April 13, 1961) is a Japanese-American bassist who was a founding member of grunge band Soundgarden, along with Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell, in 1984. He left the band in 1989; two years later, Yamamoto started the independent music, independent rock band Truly (band), Truly together with Screaming Trees drummer Mark Pickerel and Robert Roth (musician), Robert Roth from The Storybook Krooks. In 2016, Yamamoto co-founded the surf music, surf trio Stereo Donkey. In 2025, Yamamoto will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a founding member of Soundgarden. Mark Pickerel
Mark Pickerel (born March 12, 1968) is an American musician best known as the original drummer for the alternative rock band Screaming Trees. He is also an active session musician and has released several solo albums as a singer/guitarist. Biography Originally from Ellensburg, Washington, Pickerel was a high school acquaintance of Van Conner and Gary Lee Conner, and the three formed the band Explosive Generation with Pickerel on drums and vocals. Several years after graduation, the trio formed Screaming Trees with singer Mark Lanegan in 1985 (by this time Pickerel no longer performed lead vocals). The band soon moved to Seattle to join that city's burgeoning grunge scene. Jason Everman
Jason Mark Everman (born October 16, 1967) is an American musician and soldier who played guitar with Nirvana and Mind Funk, and bass in Soundgarden and OLD. He later served tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan with the U.S. Army as an Army Ranger and Green Beret. As of May 2017, Everman plays the guitar in a military veteran band called Silence & Light. ''Louder Than Love'' is the second studio album and major-label debut by American rock band Soundgarden. It was released on September 5, 1989, by A&M Records. After touring in support of their debut album, '' Ultramega OK'' (1988), Soundgarden left SST, signed with A&M and began work on their first album for a major label. The songs on the album featured a metal-leaning grunge sound with some songs featuring unusual or unorthodox time signatures. Due to the nature of some of the lyrics (particularly "Big Dumb Sex"), a Parental Advisory sticker was placed on the album packaging. ''Louder Than Love'' would become the band's first album to chart on the ''Billboard'' 200, peaking at No. 108, and it was also the first grunge record to enter that chart. ''Ultramega OK'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Soundgarden, released on October 31, 1988, by SST Records. Following the release of the EPs ''Screaming Life'' (1987) and '' Fopp'' (1988), both for the Sub Pop record label, Soundgarden signed with SST and went to work on their debut full-length. The resulting album contained elements of heavy metal, psychedelic rock, and hardcore punk. The band supported the album with a tour in the United States, as well as its first overseas tour. In 1990, the album earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Metal Performance. Overview The EP was first released in Japan, and later released in the United States. ''Fopp'' is the second EP by the American rock band Soundgarden, released in August 1988 through Sub Pop Records. ''Fopp'' was later combined with the band's first EP, ''Screaming Life'' (1987), and released as the '' Screaming Life/Fopp'' compilation album in 1990. Recording The EP was recorded in 1988 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington, with producer Steve Fisk. Music and lyrics The EP contains one Soundgarden original, two covers, and a remix. Matt Cameron
Matthew David Cameron (born November 28, 1962) is an American musician who is the drummer for the rock band Pearl Jam. He first gained fame as the drummer for Seattle-based rock band Soundgarden, which he joined in 1986, appearing on each of the band's studio albums. In 1998, after Soundgarden's initial breakup the year prior, Cameron was invited to join Pearl Jam's U.S. Yield Tour. He then became a permanent member of the band, replacing Jack Irons. Following Soundgarden's reunion in 2010, Cameron became simultaneously a member of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. He remained with the band until its second break-up after the death of lead singer Chris Cornell in 2017. ''Deep Six'' is a 1986 compilation album featuring six Seattle-based rock bands. It was the first release by C/Z Records, with a catalogue number of CZ01 for 2,000 copies. The album was reissued as a joint C/Z Records/A&M Records release on April 5, 1994. Development The album was compiled by Seattle locals Chris Hanzsek and Tina Casale of C/Z Records to showcase what was going on in the Seattle rock community at this time by drawing on the talents of six like-minded bands. Scott Sundquist
Soundgarden was an American Rock music, rock band formed in Seattle, Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and drummer Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto. Cornell switched to rhythm guitar in 1985, replaced on drums initially by Scott Sundquist, and later by Matt Cameron in 1986. Yamamoto left in 1989 and was replaced initially by Jason Everman and shortly thereafter by Ben Shepherd. Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 and reformed in 2010. Following Cornell's death in 2017, Thayil declared in October 2018 that Soundgarden had disbanded a second time.
