Hinrich Ladiges
Hinrich Ladiges (14 January 1731 – 4 March 1805) was a German-Danish sugar manufacturer. He owned two sugar refineries in Copenhagen and died as one of the wealthiest men in the country. He died unmarried and left much of his estate to charity. His former home at Gammeltorv 14, now known as the Holm House after a later owner, was listed on the Danish registry for protected buildings and places in 1926. Biography Ladiges was born in Altona. His parent were sugar-baker Ditmer L. (c. 1698–1764) and Margaretha Homann. He apprenticed as a sugar manufacturer at sugar refineries in Germany. In 1752, he was granted a monopoly on the establishment and operation of two sugar refineries in Aalborg and Viborg of which only the latter was built. In 1757 he was granted permission to move his sugar refinery to Copenhagen. In 1776 he opened a second sugar refinery. He became one of the wealthiest men in Denmark. Gammeltorv 14 (Copenhagen)
Gammeltorv (Old Market) is the oldest square in Copenhagen, Denmark. With adjoining Nytorv it forms a common space along the Strøget pedestrian zone. While the square dates back to the foundation of the city in the 12th century, most of its buildings were constructed after the Great Fire of 1795 in Neoclassical style. Another dominating feature is the Caritas Well, a Renaissance fountain erected by King Christian IV in 1610. Historically, Gammeltorv has been the focal point of Copenhagen's judicial and political life as well as one of its two principal marketplaces. Several former city halls have been located on the square or in its immediate vicinity. Surprisingly, its name is not a reference to adjoining Nytorv but to the slightly younger Amagertorv, Copenhagen's other major market in early times. Fødselsstiftelsen, also referred to as Fødsels- og Plejestiftelsen (antiquated spelling: Fødsels- og Pleiestiftelsen; Literal translation: Maternity and Caring Institution), was a Danish maternity institution in Amaliegade in Copenhagen, Denmark. The institution was created for women to give birth anonymously and receiving free medical care. The purpose was to avoid infanticide. The woman was offered ''eternal'' anonymity, however this ruling was changed in 2007, and the archive is now accessible, mostly for genealogy purposes. History A primitive maternity house in Gothersgade was established by Frederick V in 1750. It was in 1759 moved to Frederiks Hospital. The Royal Maternity House was founded by Queen Juliane Marie on 9 April 1785 by moving it to a new building next to a new building next to the hospital. Sankt Hans Hospital
Sankt Hans Hospital is a psychiatric hospital in Roskilde on the Danish island of Zealand, 30 km from Copenhagen. Although situated in the Zealand Region, it is owned by the Capital Region and serves patients from that region. The land was bought by the forerunner of Copenhagen Municipality at the beginning of the 1800s so it could relocate the municipality's psychiatric hospital to a more rural location. With a history beginning in 1620, the hospital now has 180 beds and offers specialized treatment in the areas of forensic psychiatry and dual diagnosis.
