Harry Hinde
Harry H. Hinde (September 17, 1865 – September 21, 1942) was a Missouri State Representative, businessman, aircraft designer, patent holder, and inventor. Early years Harry Hinde was the son of Edmund C. Hinde and Phobe Martin Hinde. His grandfather was Thomas S. Hinde, the founder of Mount Carmel, Illinois. Harry Hinde attended local schools in Mount Carmel. After completing his schooling, Hinde and his cousin, Frederick Hinde Zimmerman, operated a general store in Arkansas for a short time. The business failed, and they both left Arkansas in search of new business opportunities. Harry moved to Kansas City, Missouri and began work in the newspaper and printing business. Sidney Langford Hinde
Sidney Langford Hinde (23 July 1863 – 18 October 1930) was a medical doctor and colonial administrator in East Africa. He was involved in the Congo–Arab war in the service of King Leopold II of Belgium. He is commemorated in the scientific names of several African animals. Early life Sidney Hinde was born at Niagara, Ontario. His father was George Langford Hinde of the Army Medical Department. The elder Hinde was a veteran of the Crimean War who retired in 1892 with the rank of Surgeon-Major-General. Hinde attended Clare College, Cambridge and received his medical education at St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College. He practiced medicine at hospitals in Stafford, England and London before entering the service of the Congo Free State. Katherine (Katie) Hinde is an Associate Professor of Evolutionary Biology and Senior Sustainability Scientist at Arizona State University, where she researches lactation. She is also a science writer and science communicator. Education Hinde attended Seattle Central College and was part of the Running Start and College Transfer programs. She earned a bachelor's of arts in anthropology from the University of Washington in 1999. Tony Hussein Hinde
Tony Hussein Hinde (1953 – 27 May 2008; born Tony Hinde) was an Australian-born Maldivian surfer and surfing pioneer. Hinde is considered to be the "father of surfing in the Maldives." He is co-credited with discovering the surfing potential in the Maldives, along with Australian surfer Mark Scanlon, and kick-starting the nation's emerging tourism industry. Shipwrecked in the Maldives In December 1973, Hinde and fellow Aussie surfer Mark Scanlon were shipwrecked on Helengeli Reef in the Maldives aboard the ''Whitewings'', a ketch which they were hired as crewmembers. Major General Sir William Robert Norris "Looney" Hinde, (25 June 1900 – 13 July 1981) was a senior British Army officer who served in the Second World War and in the Mau Mau Uprising in colonial Kenya. Biography Hinde was born in Cupar, Fife, and was educated at Wellington College, before training as a " Gentlemen Cadet" at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 15th Hussars on 16 July 1919, and promoted to lieutenant in the combined 15th/19th Hussars on 16 July 1921. Hinde was a keen polo player and was selected as a member of the British polo team to compete in the 1936 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal. He played both matches in the tournament, the first against Mexico and the final against Argentina. He was promoted to captain, and then on 10 January 1938 to major. Hildegarde Beatrice Hinde
Hildegarde Beatrice Hinde ( Ginsburg) (1871 – 20 February 1959) was an English anthropologist, linguist, writer and an amateur naturalist. She wrote two books about East African languages and collaborated with her husband, Sidney Langford Hinde, on a book about the Maasai people. She is commemorated in the names of three African mammals. Family She was a daughter of the biblical scholar Christian David Ginsburg and his second wife, Emilie Hausburg. Her older sister Emilie Catherine married the geographer Halford Mackinder in 1889. In 1897, Hildegarde married Sidney Langford Hinde, a colonial administrator in British East Africa. Brigadier Harold Montague Hinde (24 August 1895 – 16 November 1965) was an officer of the British Army and cricketer. Biography Born in Southsea, Hinde was educated at Wellington and Blundell's Schools, and was a " Gentlemen Cadet" at the Royal Military College, before receiving his commission as a second lieutenant in the Royal Army Service Corps on 15 August 1914, within two weeks of the start of World War I. George Jennings Hinde
George Jennings Hinde (24 March 1839 – 18 March 1918) was a British geologist and paleontologist. Works Extensive studies on scolecodonts by George J. Hinde of material from England, Wales, Canada and Sweden established a basis for the nomenclature of what he regarded as being isolated components of annelid jaws; but study of them lapsed thereafter for almost 50 years. Frank Hinde
Frank Langford Hinde (5 April 1869 – 22 August 1931) was an Irish-born English cricketer. Hinde was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Rathfarnham, Leinster. Hinde made a single first-class debut for Gloucestershire against Sussex in the 1895 County Championship at the County Ground, Hove. Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bat first, making 151 all out, with Hinde batting at number three and being dismissed for 2 runs by Arthur Collins. In response, Sussex made 213 all out in their first-innings, to which Gloucestershire responded in their second-innings by making 146 all out, during which Hinde, who batted at number six in this innings, was dismissed for 3 runs by Collins. Joan Hinde
Joan Hinde (21 October 1933 – 22 January 2015) was a British trumpeter and entertainer. Life Joan Hinde was born in Eckington, Derbyshire. At the age of six she began receiving cornet lessons from her uncle, who was the conductor of a local brass band. In 1966 she married Kenneth Hopson and in 1967 gave birth to her daughter, Claire. She and her husband resided in Felpham, Bognor Regis, West Sussex. She was perhaps the UK's oldest working female trumpeter, and was proud to have been a lifelong member of the very exclusive Grand Order of Lady Ratlings. She died at a nursing home in Chichester, West Sussex, on 22 January 2015, aged 81.
