Hillsborough (1783 EIC Ship)
''Hillsborough'' was a three-decker merchant ship launched in 1782. She made six voyages to India and China as an East Indiaman for the British East India Company. In 1798 she transported convicts from England to New South Wales. After delivering her convicts in 1799, she became a whaler in the South Seas fisheries for several years. She was broken up in 1804. East Indiaman Voyage #1 (1784-85) Captain William Hardcastle left the Downs on 27 January 1784 for Madras and Bengal. ''Hillsborough'' reached Simon's Bay on 24 April and arrived at Madras on 11 July. She then arrived at Kedgeree on 8 August. For her return voyage she passed Saugor on 8 February 1785, reached the Cape on 5 May and St Helena on 5 June, and arrived at the Downs on 17 August. Voyage #2 (1786-89) Captain William Hardcastle left the Downs on 13 March 1786, bound for Bengal, Bombay, and China. HMS ''Abergavenny'' was originally ''Earl of Abergavenny'', an East Indiaman sailing for the British East India Company (EIC). As an East Indiaman she made two trips to China between 1790 and 1794. The Royal Navy bought her in 1795, converted her to a 56-gun fourth-rate ship of the line, and renamed her. One year later the East India Company built a new and much larger ship which was also named the Earl of Abergavenny (1796 EIC ship), ''Earl of Abergavenny'' and which sank off Weymouth, Dorset, Weymouth Bay in 1805. ''Pigot'' was an East Indiaman that made five voyages to India, China, and the East Indies for the British East India Company (EIC) between 1780 and 1794. Oh her fifth voyage, which occurred early in the French Revolutionary Wars, the French captured her during the Sunda Strait campaign of 1794. Career Voyage #1 (1780-1782) Captain Robert Morgan left Portsmouth on 3 June 1780, bound for China and Benkulen. ''Pigot'' reached Whampoa on 2 February 1781. HMS Glatton (1795)
HMS ''Glatton'' was a 56-gun fourth rate of the Royal Navy. Wells & Co. of Blackwell launched her on 29 November 1792 for the British East India Company (EIC) as the East Indiaman ''Glatton''. The Royal Navy bought her in 1795 and converted her into a warship. ''Glatton'' was unusual in that for a time she was the only ship-of-the-line that the Royal Navy had armed exclusively with carronades.
