Hilary Mitchell
Hilary Anne Mitchell is a New Zealand historian and author. With her husband, John Mitchell, she published four volumes on the history of Māori in Nelson and Marlborough. The second volume won the Montana New Zealand Book Award for history. Mitchell also served on the Nelson City Council. Career Mitchell was married to Māori historian John Mitchell, who she met while they were both studying at the University of Canterbury. They got married in 1966 and Mitchell worked as a secondary school teacher. In 1985 they began a research company together, Mitchell Research, and the two worked together until John's death in 2021. Mitchell was a Nelson City Councillor. She described it as "being paid to pursue my favourite pastime (arguing)". John Mitchell (historian)
Maui John Mitchell (20 May 1941 – 23 September 2021) was a New Zealand historian who specialised in Māori people, Māori history, particularly in the upper South Island. Of Māori descent, he affiliated to Te Āti Awa and Ngāti Tama. Mitchell completed a master's thesis in 1967, followed by a doctoral thesis in 1971, both at the University of Canterbury. He died on 23 September 2021 in Nelson, New Zealand, Nelson. Ockham New Zealand Book Awards
The Ockham New Zealand Book Awards are literary awards presented annually in New Zealand. The awards began in 1996 as the merger of two literary awards events: the New Zealand Book Awards, which ran from 1976 to 1995, and the Goodman Fielder Wattie Book Awards, which ran from 1968 to 1995 (known as the Montana Book Awards from 1994 to 1995). The awards have changed name several times depending on sponsorship. From 1996 to 2009, the awards were known as the Montana New Zealand Book Awards, and sponsored by Montana Wines. From 2010 until 2014, the awards were known as the New Zealand Post Book Awards. Nelson City Council
Nelson City Council is the unitary local authority for Nelson in New Zealand. History Local governance of Nelson began with Nelson Province in 1853, which covered the entire upper South Island. The town of Nelson was managed by the Nelson Board of Works, constituted by the provincial council under the Nelson Improvement Act 1856. Nelson became a borough and the board of works became Nelson City Council on 30 March 1874.
