Hilario Chi Canul
Hilario Chi Canul (born 16 October 1981) is a Mexican linguist of Maya ethnicity who worked as a translator and Yucatec Maya language coach in the production of the 2006 movie ''Apocalypto'' by Mel Gibson. Life In 2007 he won the first prize in the Mexican government's competition of indigenous language rhetoric. He is Professor of Maya at the University of Quintana Roo (UQRoo). He has worked as Maya language narrator in a number of commercial, art, and educational films. He is also involved in the movement to revive Mexico's indigenous heritage. He has given talks about his experience as a Maya translator working in the film industry at several American Universities. Tlaxiaco
Tlaxiaco () is a city, and its surrounding Municipalities of Oaxaca, municipality of the same name, in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. It is located in the Tlaxiaco District in the south of the Mixteca Region, with a population of about 17,450. The city is formally known as Heroica Ciudad de Tlaxiaco ("heroic city of Tlaxiaco") in honour of a battle waged there during the 1862–67 Second French intervention in Mexico, French invasion. ''Baktun'' is a telenovela in Maya broadcast on Quintana Roo public television in August 2013. A bʼakʼtun is a megacycle of the Maya calendar. Production Produced for $250,000 by Bruno Cárcamo, a veteran Mexican producer, the 21 episodes were filmed in Tihosuco, an historic town in northern Quintana Roo; it will also be distributed as a film. The film uses many previously inexperienced actors and extras from the local community.
