Hikmet Bayar
Mehmet Hikmet Bayar (1932 July 12, 2019) was a Turkish general who served as the 36th commander of the Turkish Land Forces from 30 August 1994 to 27 August 1996. He also commanded the First and the Third Army, in addition to serving as a commander of Allied Land Forces Southern Europe. Career Born and raised in Gölcük, Kocaeli, Turkey, Bayar obtained his graduation as an artillery second lieutenant from Kuleli Military High School in 1951, the Turkish Military Academy in 1953 and Artillery Class School in 1955. After obtaining his graduation from same Military Academy in 1965, he became a staff officer in 1967. Gölcük, Kocaeli
Gölcük, historically known as Diolkides, is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of Kocaeli Province, Turkey. Its area is 217 km2, and its population is 175,940 (2022). Lieutenant General
Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general (or colonel general) and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. In the United States, a lieutenant general has a three star insignia and commands an army corps, typically made up of three army divisions, and consisting of around 60,000 to 70,000 soldiers. Kuleli Military High School
Kuleli Military High School was the oldest military high school in Turkey, located in Çengelköy, Istanbul, on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus strait. It was founded on 21 September 1845, by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I. After the 2016 Turkish coup d'état attempt Kuleli Military High School along with other Military High Schools was closed and turned into a museum. The building was later converted into a Language School where foreign languages were taught to military personnel. Turkish Land Forces
The Turkish Land Forces () is the main branch of the Turkish Armed Forces responsible for land-based military operations.
