Higuchinsky
Akihiro Higuchi, also known by the alias Higuchinsky, is a Ukrainian-born film director known for directing the 2000 film ''Uzumaki (film), Uzumaki'', an adaptation of the manga Uzumaki, of the same name by Junji Ito. Higuchinsky also directed ''Long Dream'', a 2000 television film adaptation of ''Nagai Yume'', another story by Ito. Additionally, Higuchinsky directed the 2003 film ''Tokyo 10+01'', and helmed an episode of a television series adaptation of the manga ''Eko Eko Azarak (manga), Eko Eko Azarak''. Uzumaki (film)
is a 2000 Japanese supernatural horror film based on the manga of the same name by Junji Ito. The feature film directorial debut of Higuchinsky, it stars Eriko Hatsune, Fhi Fan, Hinako Saeki and Shin Eun-kyung. The film takes place in a town plagued by a mysterious curse involving spirals. As the film was produced while the manga was still being written and released, it departs from the story of the original work and features a different ending. The film was backed by the company Omega Micott, who released it in Japan on a double bill with '' Tomie: Replay'', another film based on a manga by Ito. Simultaneously, ''Uzumaki'' received a limited release in the American city of San Francisco. It received mixed reviews from critics. Nagai Yume
is a short story by manga author Junji Ito, originally included in ''The Junji Ito Horror Comic Collection''. A one-hour Japanese television drama adaptation was broadcast in 2000. The adaptation was directed by Higuchinsky, whose film adaptation of Ito's ''Uzumaki'' had been released earlier the same year. The story was also adapted in the second segment of the second episode of the anime '' Junji Ito Collection''. Uzumaki
is a Japanese horror manga series written and illustrated by Junji Ito. Appearing as a serial in Shogakukan's weekly manga magazine '' Big Comic Spirits'' from 1998 to 1999, the chapters were compiled into three bound volumes published from August 1998 to September 1999. In March 2000, Shogakukan released an omnibus edition, followed by a second omnibus version in August 2010. In North America, Viz Media serialized an English-language translation of the series in its monthly magazine ''Pulp'' from February 2001 to August 2002. Viz Media then published the volumes from October 2001 to October 2002, with a re-release from October 2007 to February 2008, and published a hardcover omnibus edition in October 2013. is a Japanese horror manga artist. Midnight Eye is a non-profit review website launched in 2001 by Tom Mes, Jasper Sharp, and Martin Mes. The website features reviews and analyses of Japanese films, as well as book reviews and interviews with filmmakers. In June 2015, it was announced that no further content would be added to the website. History Editor Tom Mes, alongside his brother, designer and programmer Martin Mes, and fellow editor Jasper Sharp, launched the website in spring 2001. Tom Mes conceived the idea for the website after watching a retrospective of then-recent Japanese films at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2000.
