Highway 16 (Israel)
Highway 16 (or Ariel Sharon Blvd) is a highway at the western entrance to Jerusalem providing direct access to the southern and central sections of the city from the west. Most of the road is located inside newly built tunnels. The project cost approximately 1.5 billion shekels, and was inaugurated a year ahead of schedule on August 31, 2022. Highway The highway connects Highway 1 at the new Motza Interchange and Jerusalem's Highway 50 (Begin Boulevard) at Givat Mordechai Interchange. The road mostly travels through a series of tunnels under the west Jerusalem neighbourhoods of Har Nof and Yefeh Nof and the parking lots of Shaare Zedek Medical Center. In the center, an above-ground interchange was built in the valley of Nahal Revida (Revida Stream) adjacent to the Pi Glilot Fuel Terminal to connect to Derech Yosef Weitz leading to Givat Shaul. Ariel Sharon
Ariel Sharon ( ; also known by his diminutive Arik, ; 26 February 192811 January 2014) was an Israeli general and politician who served as the prime minister of Israel from March 2001 until April 2006. Born in Kfar Malal in Mandatory Palestine to Russian Jewish immigrants, he rose in the ranks of the Israel Defense Forces, Israeli Army from its creation in 1948, participating in the 1948 Palestine war as platoon commander of the Alexandroni Brigade and taking part in several battles. Sharon became an instrumental figure in the creation of Unit 101 and the reprisal operations, including the 1953 Qibya massacre, as well as in the 1956 Suez Crisis, the Six-Day War of 1967, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War, Yom-Kippur War of 1973. Israel has a well-developed road network spanning the entire country. This network is undergoing constant improvement and expansion to accommodate the rising number of vehicles on its roadways, reduce commute times, and facilitate the outward de-concentration of residential, business, and government centers north and south of the country's center. The National Roads Authority of Israel Founded in 2003, the National Roads Authority of Israel plans, develops and maintains most of the inter-city roads in Israel. Hans Beyth
Hans Shmuel Beyth (October 5, 1901 – December 26, 1947) was a German banker and Zionist activist. Between 1935 and 1945 he was a close aide of Henrietta Szold managing the Youth Aliyah, and from 1945 until his death in 1947 he was the leader of the organization in Palestine. Beyth was killed in a shootout during the civil war in Mandatory Palestine. Highway 50 (formerly ''Route 404''), officially called Begin Boulevard (, Sderot Begin) and also referred to as Menachem Begin Expressway or Begin Highway, is a north–south urban freeway, through western Jerusalem, named after Israel's sixth Prime Minister of Israel, Prime Minister, Menachem Begin. Local Jerusalemites simply refer to it as 'Begin' (). It enters Area C (West Bank), Area C of the West Bank on the north end and East Jerusalem on both ends.
