Highway 12 is a single carriageway road in the South District of Israel. It surrounds the mountains of Eilat from the north and west, and it connects Eilat to Highway 10 and Highway 40, which lead toward central Israel. Highway 10 continues north toward the Gaza Strip, whereas Highway 40 proceeds to Beersheba via Mizpe Ramon. Ovda Airport
Ovda Airport was the former civilian part of the ''Ovda Israeli Air Force Base'' in the Uvda region of southern Israel, about north of Eilat. It was the country's second international airport. Ovda was originally built and opened as a military airbase in 1981 and was joint-used as a civilian airport a year later but ceased handling civilian flights on 31 March 2019 thanks to the opening of Ramon Airport, which is located much closer to the city of Eilat than Ovda. History Ovda Airbase was constructed for the Israeli Air Force (IAF) by the United States as a replacement for Etzion Air Force Base and opened in 1981. The Israeli Airports Authority began operations from Ovda Airport in 1982, after the signing of the peace treaty with Egypt. Highway 10 (Israel)
Highway 10 is a road in the South District of Israel. It is one of the longest routes in Israel, extending for nearly the entire border of Israel with Egypt from the Gaza Strip in the north to Sayarim junction in the south. Under a military security advisory, its entire 113-mile length is almost permanently off-limits to civilian traffic. Highway 40 (Israel)
Highway 40 () is a north-south intercity road in Israel. At 302 km long, it is the second longest highway in Israel, after Highway 90 (Israel–Palestine), Highway 90. The highway runs from Kfar Saba in the center of Israel to the Arabah in the south, serving as a main connection between central Israel and Be'er Sheva. Route description The highway starts at an intersection with Highway 90 near Ketura, Israel, Ketura, about 50 km north of Eilat as a two-lane undivided road. Mizpe Ramon
Mitzpe Ramon (, Ramon Lookout; ) is a local council in the Negev desert of southern Israel. It is situated on the northern ridge at an elevation of 860 meters (2,800 feet) overlooking the world's largest erosion cirque, known as the Makhtesh Ramon. In it had a population of . Netafim Border Crossing
The Netafim Border Crossing () was a border crossing between Israel and Egypt. It was located adjacent to Highway 12, about north of Eilat, north west of Ein Netafim. As of 2023, the only two working crossing points between Israel and Egypt are the Taba-Eilat Border Crossing and the Nitzana Border Crossing. The border line is guarded accurately on both sides, on the Israeli side alongside Highway 12 (one of the two accommodation roads to Eilat) by the Israel Border Police and on the Egyptian side from some army positions. The border crossing is in the Israel National Trail's proximity but not actually on the route. Nevertheless, many wanderers who have lost their way arrive at the border crossing to drink some water.
