German Americans (, ) are Americans who have full or partial German ancestry. According to the United States Census Bureau's figures from 2022, German Americans make up roughly 41 million people in the US, which is approximately 12% of the population. Daniel Hiester
Daniel Hiester (June 25, 1747 – March 7, 1804) was an American political and military leader from the American Revolutionary War, Revolutionary War period to the early 19th Century. Born in Berks County, Pennsylvania, Berks County in the Province of Pennsylvania, he was a member of the Hiester Family political dynasty. He was the brother of John Hiester and Gabriel Hiester, cousin of Joseph Hiester, and the uncle of William Hiester (Pennsylvania politician), William Hiester and U.S. Rep. Daniel Hiester (1774–1834). Gabriel Hiester
Gabriel Hiester (1749–1824) was an American political and military leader from the time of the American Revolution to the early-19th century, and was a member of the Hiester Family political dynasty. A brother of John Hiester and Daniel Hiester, he was a Jeffersonian Republican who served in Pennsylvania's unicameral Assembly, House of Representatives and State Senate, representing Berks and Dauphin counties. Joseph Hiester
Joseph Hiester (November 18, 1752June 10, 1832) was an American politician, who served as the fifth governor of Pennsylvania from 1820 to 1823. He was a member of the Hiester family political dynasty, and was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party. Biography Hiester was the son of John Hiester and Maria Barbara Epler. He received a common-school education when he was not working on the farm, and became a clerk in a store in Reading run by Adam Whitman. He became a partner in the store in 1771 when he married Elizabeth, Whitman's daughter. He owned slaves. William Hiester Jr. (October 10, 1790 – October 13, 1853) was an American politician from Pennsylvania who served as an Anti-Masonic member of the United States House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 4th congressional district from 1831 to 1837. As a member of the Hiester Family political dynasty, he was the father of U.S. Congressman Isaac Ellmaker Hiester and the uncle of Pennsylvania State Senator and U.S. Congressman Hiester Clymer. William Muhlenberg Hiester
William Muhlenberg Hiester (May 15, 1818 – August 16, 1878) was an American political and military leader from Pennsylvania who served as Democratic Speaker of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 5th district from 1853 to 1857. He was a member of the Muhlenberg/Hiester Family political dynasty. Early life and education Hiester was born in Reading, Pennsylvania to Dr. Isaac and Mrs. Hester Muhlenberg Hiester. Isaac Ellmaker Hiester
Isaac Ellmaker Hiester (May 29, 1824 – February 6, 1871) was a nineteenth century American political leader. A member of the Hiester Family political dynasty, he was also descended from the prominent Ellmaker family. The son of William Hiester, he was also a cousin of Hiester Clymer. A century after his death, he was memorialized by American newspapers as a "distinguished Pennsylvania congressman and jurist." Biography Isaac E. Hiester was born in New Holland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on May 29, 1824. He graduated from Yale University in 1842, and while at college helped to found the Scroll and Key Society. He then studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1845, afterwards practicing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Hiester Clymer
Hiester Clymer (November 3, 1827 – June 12, 1884) was an American politician and white supremacist from the state of Pennsylvania. Clymer was a member of the Hiester family political dynasty and the Democratic Party. He was the nephew of William Muhlenberg Hiester and the cousin of Isaac Ellmaker Hiester. Although Clymer was born in Pennsylvania, he was adamantly opposed to Abraham Lincoln's administration and the Republican Party's prosecution of the American Civil War. Elected Pennsylvania state senator in 1860, Clymer opposed state legislation that supported the state Republican Party's war effort. After the American Civil War ended, Clymer unsuccessfully ran for the Pennsylvania Governor's office in 1866 on a white supremacist platform against Union Major-General John W. Geary.
