Hi Brigham
Haven Alva "Hi" Brigham (July 13, 1892 – October 6, 1987) was an American football lineman who played eight seasons with the Columbus Panhandles, including one while they were in the National Football League (NFL). Early life and education Brigham was born on July 13, 1892, in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of four children. His family moved to Bowling Green, Ohio, shortly after his birth. He was nicknamed "Hi" when he was young. He did not play high school football until his senior year of high school, after several friends suggested he try out for the team. His coach, Jim Lehmann, gave him the center position. He also played fullback, and scored his only touchdown in a 111–0 win over North Baltimore High School. He attended college at Ohio State University, studying horticulture. He enrolled in fall of 1910, playing for the school's freshman team. Center or centre (C) is a position in American football. The center is the innermost Lineman (American football), lineman of the offensive line on a football team's Offense (sports), offense who passes (or "Snap (gridiron football), snaps") the ball between his legs to the quarterback at the start of each Play from scrimmage, play. During the period of the one-platoon system, centers frequently played defensively as "middle guards", off the opposing center on the opposite side of the line as with a modern nose tackle. Joseph Carr
Joseph Francis Carr (October 22, 1879 – May 20, 1939) was an American sports executive in football, baseball, and basketball. He is best known as the president of the National Football League from 1921 until 1939. He was also one of the founders and president of the American Basketball League (ABL) from 1925 to 1927. He was also the promotional director for Minor League Baseball's governing body from 1933 to 1939, leading an expansion of the minor leagues from 12 to 40 leagues operating in 279 cities with 4,200 players and attendance totaling 15,500,000. A native and lifelong resident of Columbus, Ohio, Carr worked in his early years as a machinist for the Panhandle Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad and a sports writer for a Columbus newspaper. ''The Columbus Dispatch'' is a daily newspaper based in Columbus, Ohio. Its first issue was published on July 1, 1871, and it has been the only mainstream daily newspaper in the city since ''The Columbus Citizen-Journal'' ceased publication in 1985. As of November 2019, Alan D. Miller is the newspaper's interim general manager. History The paper was founded in June 1871 by a group of 10 printers with 900 in financial capital. Fort Hayes was a military post in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Created by an act of the United States Congress on July 11, 1862, the site was also known as the Columbus Arsenal until 1922, when the site was renamed after former Ohio Governor and later 19th President of the United States, U.S. President Rutherford B. Ohio League
The Ohio League was an informal and loose association of American football clubs active between 1902 and 1919 that competed for the Ohio Independent Championship (OIC). As the name implied, its teams were mostly based in Ohio. It is the direct predecessor to the modern National Football League (NFL). A proposal to add teams from outside Ohio, such as the Latrobe Athletic Association, to form a formal league known as the "Football Association" fell through prior to the 1904 season. Though a champion was declared by the group throughout its existence, a formal league was not founded until 1920, when several Ohio League teams added clubs from other states to form the American Professional Football Association. In 1922, the APFA became the National Football League.
