Hi-Lo League
The Hi-Lo League is a high school athletic conference that is affiliated with the CIF Central Section (CIF-CS). Members are small schools in the remote desert regions of eastern California. The league and its schools joined the CIF-CS in 2017; previously, they were part of the CIF Southern Section. The Hi-Lo League sponsors 8-man football. The two farthest schools, Lee Vining High School, Lee Vining and Baker Valley Unified School District, Baker Valley, are apart—more than 6 hours one-way. An athletic conference is a collection of sports teams which play competitively against each other in a sports league. In many cases conferences are subdivided into smaller Division (sport), divisions, with the best teams competing at successively higher levels. Conferences often, but not always, include teams from a common geographic region. The California Interscholastic Federation—Central Section (CIF-CS) is the governing body of high school athletics in the central and southern portions of the San Joaquin Valley, the Eastern Sierra region, and as of the 2018/9 season, San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County on the Central Coast. Eastern California is a region defined as either the strip to the east of the crest of the Sierra Nevada or as the easternmost counties of California. The California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section (CIF-SS) is the governing body for high school athletics in most of Southern California and is the largest of the ten sections that comprise the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Its membership includes most public and private high schools in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and central and southern Santa Barbara counties. Teams from the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and surrounding areas have competed in the CIF Los Angeles City Section since 1935. CIF-SS's offices are located in Los Alamitos. Exeter, California
Exeter is a city in Tulare County, California, United States. It is situated in the San Joaquin Valley near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The population was 10,321 at the 2020 census, down from 10,334 at the 2010 census. Exeter is located on State Highway 65, south of Highway 198 and east of Highway 99. History Before the arrival of European settlers, Yokuts settled around an area in an oak forest two miles north of Exeter. The current town site was a plain that possessed elk, antelope, frogs, and deer. Rocky Hill, to the east of the city, offered shelter to native tribes when the plain flooded. 8-man Football
Eight-man football is a form of gridiron football, generally played by high schools with smaller enrollments. Eight-man football differs from the traditional 11-man game with the reduction of three players on each side of the ball and a field width that can be reduced to 40 yards, 13 1/3 yards narrower than the 53 1/3-yard 11-man field. Most states continue to play on a field 100 yards long, whereas a few states opt for 80-yard lengths. Reduced-player football, which consists of eight-man, six-man, and nine-man football has gained popularity across the United States. Lone Pine High School was established in 1916, making it one of the oldest active high schools in the county. The first graduating class of the school was in 1920.
