Hesperange (; ; ) is a Communes of Luxembourg, commune and town in southern Luxembourg. It is located south-east of Luxembourg City. The total population of the commune is 16,443 as of 2023, making it the List of communes of Luxembourg by population, seventh-most populous in the country. , the town of Hesperange, which lies in the centre of the commune, has a population of 2,914. Other towns within the commune include Alzingen, Fentange, Howald, and Itzig, Luxembourg, Itzig. Each of these five towns has a population of over 1,000, making Hesperange unique amongst Luxembourgish communes in having five towns with over a thousand inhabitants (see: ''List of towns in Luxembourg by population''). Hesperange Castle, now a ruin, has a history dating from the 13th century. The National Division (, , ), known as the BGL Ligue for sponsorship reasons, is the highest association football, football league in Luxembourg. Until 2011, it was known as the BGL Ligue, after the Luxembourg Football Federation managed to seal a sponsorship deal with Fortis (finance), Fortis. Before 2006, it contained twelve teams, but it expanded to fourteen for the 2006–07 Luxembourg National Division, 2006–07 season. Following the abandonment of the previous season, the 2020–21 Luxembourg National Division, 2020–21 season saw the further expansion of the league to 16 teams. Hesperange Castle
Hesperange Castle (Luxembourgish: ''Buerg Hesper''; ) is a ruin located high above the town of Hesperange in southern Luxembourg. History The castle probably dates from the early 13th century when the Counts of Luxembourg gave Hesperange to the Lords of Rodenmacher who sided with the French when the Burgundians The Burgundians were an early Germanic peoples, Germanic tribe or group of tribes. Howald
Howald () is a town in the commune of Hesperange, in southern Luxembourg. The town merges almost seamlessly with Luxembourg City's south-eastern suburban quarter of South Bonnevoie, which lies to the north of Howald. , the town has a population of 5,815, making it the most populous town in the commune and the 22nd-most populous in Luxembourg. Through Howald runs the ''route de Thionville'', one of Luxembourg's historically most-important roads, which runs from Luxembourg City to the French town of Thionville (which had been a part of Luxembourg until 1659). Albert Bousser
Albert Bousser (8 February 1906 – 2 May 1995) was a Luxembourgish politician, railway inspector, and trade unionist. Born on 8 February 1906 in Alzingen, Bousser studied in Paris at the École du génie civil, after which he became a railway inspector for Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, in which capacity he worked until 1969. He worked for the railway workers' union, first as Secretary (1945–1954) and later as President (1954–1964). Bousser first entered the Chamber of Deputies in 1946, as he would remain until 1964, when he became a government minister, as Minister for Transport and Minister for Public Works (1964–1969). He briefly sat on the communal council of Luxembourg City (1950–1951), before moving to Howald, in Hesperange and serving as Mayor of Hesperange.
