Allen Hershkowitz is an American environmental scientist who worked as a senior scientist at Natural Resources Defense Council from 1988 to 2014 and then at the Green Sports Alliance until 2016, when he left to become a Founding Director and Chairman of Sport and Sustainability International. Hershkowitz is currently Environmental Science Advisor to the New York Yankees, the first role of its kind in professional sports, as well as Environmental Advisor to the NBA, and Co-Chair of the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management of Sports and Entertainment Venues, created by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). Noah Hershkowitz
Noah Hershkowitz (August 16, 1941 – November 13, 2020) was an American experimental plasma physicist. He was known for his pioneering research on the understanding of plasma sheaths, solitons and double layers in plasmas, as well as the development of the emissive probe which measures the plasma potential (i.e. the electric potential within a plasma sheath). In 2004, Hershkowitz was co-awarded the 2004 James Clerk Maxwell Prize for Plasma Physics for his contributions to the field of low-temperature plasmas. He was also awarded the 2015 IEEE Marie Sklodowska-Curie Award for his research and education of basic and applied plasma science. Early life and career Hershkowitz obtained a bachelor's degree from Union College in 1962 and a Ph.D. in physics from Johns Hopkins University in 1966. Sara Hershkowitz (born 1980) is an American coloratura soprano, who made an international career based in Germany. She is known for roles in Mozart and Strauss operas, such as Konstanze, the Queen of the Night, Sophie and Zerbinetta, but also for contemporary music such as Ligeti's '' Le Grand Macabre''. Career Hershkowitz was born in Los Angeles to a family that had lived in Israel before moving to California in the 1960s. She graduated as a B.A. from the Manhattan School of Music. At age 23, she went to Germany, where she studied in Berlin. She was a member of the Theater Bremen from 2007 to 2012. Marvin Hershkowitz
Marvin Hershkowitz (March 7, 1931 – May 4, 2020) was the captain of the Yeshiva University Maccabees basketball team in the 1950s, under the leadership of coach Bernard “Red” Sarachek. Hershkowitz later became a coach of the team. Hershkowitz was born in the Bronx. He was an All-City selection from DeWitt Clinton High School, where he served as varsity team captain, as the team won the New York City Championship in his junior year. He joined the Yeshiva University team after playing for CCNY for his freshman year. From 1954 to 1957, he was an assistant coach and assistant athletic director at Yeshiva University. He immigrated to Israel in 1977. Daniel Hershkowitz (; born 2 January 1953 in Haifa, Israel) is an Israeli politician, mathematician, and Orthodox rabbi. Since 2018, he has headed the . He is professor emeritus of mathematics at the Technion, and is also rabbi of the Ahuza neighborhood in Haifa. He was president of Bar-Ilan University from 2013-17. Early life Hershkowitz was born in Haifa. His parents were Holocaust survivors from Hungary, and his father was wounded in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Hershkowitz studied at a religious high school, and graduated at age 16. He served for five years in the Intelligence Corps of the Israel Defense Forces, reaching the rank of Major. Hershkowitz earned his BSc in mathematics in 1973, MSc in 1976, and DSc in 1982, all from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Ephraim Fishel Hershkowitz () (2 October 1922 – 27 May 2017), the Haleiner Rav, was an American Hasidic rabbi, the senior Klausenburger '' dayan'' in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. He was a respected elder in the American Orthodox community. Early life Ephraim Fishel was born on Yom Kippur 1922 (10 Tishrei 5683) in the city of Mukačevo, Czechoslovakia (present-day Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine). His father, Rabbi Shlomo Hershkowitz, and his grandfather, Rabbi Avraham Hershkowitz (author of ''Birkas Avraham al HaTorah'') were loyal Spinka Hasidim.
