Hertwig's Epithelial Root Sheath
The Hertwig epithelial root sheath (HERS) or epithelial root sheath is a proliferation of epithelial cells located at the cervical loop of the enamel organ in a developing tooth. Hertwig epithelial root sheath initiates the formation of dentin in the root of a tooth by causing the differentiation of odontoblasts from the dental papilla. The root sheath eventually disintegrates with the periodontal ligament, but residual pieces that do not completely disappear are seen as epithelial cell rests of Malassez (ERM). These rests can become cystic, presenting future periodontal infections. Structure Hertwig epithelial root sheath is derived from the inner and outer enamel epithelium of the enamel organ.Illustrated Dental Embryology, Histology, and Anatomy, Fehrenbach and Popowics, Elsevier, 2026, p. 70-73 Function The sheath is also responsible for multiple or accessory roots (medial growth) and lateral or accessory canals in the root (break in epithelium).Ten Cate's Oral Histol ...

House Energy Rating
The House Energy Rating (HER) or House Energy Rating Scheme (HERS) are worldwide standard measures of comparison by which one can evaluate the energy efficiency of a new or an existing building. The comparison is generally done for energy requirements for heating and cooling of indoor space. The energy is the main criterion considered by any international building energy rating scheme but there are some other important factors such as production of greenhouse gases emission, indoor environment quality, cost efficiency and thermal comfort, which are considered by some schemes. Basically, the energy rating of a residential building provides detailed information on the energy consumption and the relative energy efficiency of the building. Hence, HERs inform consumers about the relative energy efficiency of homes and encourage them to use this information in making their house purchase decision. There are many energy rating tools by which one can calculate the energy performance of ...

Their house, by the architect Henry van de Velde, in which he lived until age 21, was a privileged meeting place for personalities who came to inform his father on political, religious, diplomatic, economic issues in Asia, the Soviet Union and Africa, in the framework of his activities to promote and ...

Joseph Hers (1884–1965) was a Belgian railroad engineer who served from 1919 to 1924 as a botanist in northern China, where he discovered several new varieties of lilac. Some have been named after him. Career He was born in Namur, Belgium on September 6, 1884 and started working in China in 1905 as an interpreter for the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was then the Secretary General of Lunghai and Pienlo railways and he was also an assessor at the International Mixed Court in Shanghai. He was a tall, strong-looking man, as can be seen from several extant photographs, and travelled tirelessly in difficult conditions. His role in the construction of the rail line certainly would have brought him into a work-related contact with William Purdom, a ...
