Heron Road (Ottawa)
Heron Road (Ottawa Road #16) is a major road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It runs from Walkley Road at an angle to the Rideau River, where it turns into Baseline Road (Ottawa), Baseline Road. Heron is home to the Sir Leonard Tilley Building, the Canada Post headquarters, and 1500 Bronson Avenue (at its junction with Riverside Drive (Ottawa), Riverside Drive). It is also home to St. Patrick's Intermediate High School and Herongate Mall. Heron Road starts on the Heron Road Bridge which crosses the Rideau River, Rideau Canal, and part of Vincent Massey Park. Rideau River
The Rideau River (, ) is a river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The river flows north from Upper Rideau Lake and empties into the Ottawa River at the Rideau Falls in Ottawa, Ontario. Its length is . Baseline Road (Ottawa)
Baseline Road ( Ottawa Road #16) is a road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Baseline runs from Richmond Road (almost directly over Highway 416) east in a straight line until it ends at the Heron Road Bridge over the Rideau River and Rideau Canal when it becomes Heron Road. Before the 2001 City of Ottawa amalgamation, Baseline formed the border of the city of Ottawa and Nepean. The street is named for its location as the baseline for Nepean Township. When Nepean Township was surveyed, Baseline formed the northern boundary of Nepean's six north–south concessions. Currently, Baseline is a major east–west street, and in the late 1990s it became so busy that Hunt Club Road had to be extended west of the Rideau River to alleviate pressure. Sir Leonard Tilley Building
The Sir Leonard Tilley Building and Annex (), is a Government of Canada office building property consisting of two buildings and operated by the Public Works and Government Services Canada and located at 719 Heron Road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was designed by architect Jean-Serge Le Fort. The floor space covers 23,832 square metres and the land area covers 4.527 hectares. Until 2015, the building housed the headquarters of the Communications Security Establishment (CSE). This building was named in honour of Samuel Leonard Tilley, federal Finance Minister in 1873–1878. The completion of a new headquarters building on Ogilvie Road led the CSE to vacate the building by 2016. 1500 Bronson Avenue
1500 Bronson Avenue, (formerly the CBC Building, and the Edward Drake Building) is a modernist office building in Ottawa, Ontario, owned by Public Services and Procurement Canada. It was designed by CBC's chief architect David Gordon McKinstry and constructed between 1961 and 1964. It originally served as the headquarters of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, but significant CBC budget cutbacks in the 1990s led to the relocation of the head office staff in 1997. The building was later occupied by the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) and was renamed in honour of Lt. Colonel Edward Drake, the first director of its predecessor organisation, the Communications Branch of the National Research Council. The Communications Security Agency moved out of the building from 2014 to 2015, after their new facility was completed in Ottawa's east end. Riverside Drive ( Ottawa Road #19) is a major road in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, that follows along the eastern bank of the Rideau River. Its northern terminus is at the Transitway/Via Rail underpass just south of the Queensway, and the road proceeds south to Limebank Road where it continues as River Road until the city limits. Herongate Mall
Herongate is a village in south Essex, England. The village is situated on the A128 road between Brentwood and West Horndon. The population of the village is listed in the civil parish of Herongate and Ingrave. History Herongate goes back to the Saxon period, The Anglo-Saxon and medieval settlements were devoted to arable and livestock farming. Herongate was part of the parish of East Horndon; the tradition that the name derived from a heronry there is apocryphal, and it probably derives from the Heron family who held Heron Hall into the fourteenth century. Heron Road Bridge
The Heron Road Workers Memorial Bridge (formerly the Heron Road Bridge) is a bridge in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It connects Baseline Road to Heron Road and allows east–west traffic to cross both the Rideau River and the Rideau Canal just south of Carleton University. The current bridge was finished in 1967, one year after a bridge collapse killed nine workers and injured over sixty others in the worst construction accident in both Ottawa and Ontario history. It was renamed in 2016 to commemorate the victims of that accident. Planning and early construction Ottawa Mayor Charlotte Whitton initially opposed the plans of Prime Minister John Diefenbaker to build the bridge to ease east–west traffic in the city.
