Hernani Almeida
Hernani Almeida (born 7 April 1978 in Sao Vicente, Cape Verde) is a Cape Verdean musician. In 1994 he formed his first rock band named What and has recorded and produced many albums. He was named Best Guitarist (2005) and Best Artist (2006) of the nation prize "Nos Musica" given to recognize Capeverdean artists. Biography Over the past two years in addition to recording his 1st solo CD, produced and directed musically also the last album " Vadu " and the first "Princesito", "Isa Pereira", "Eder", "Nho Nani" and he composed one music for the last disc of the Sara Tavares "Balancé", entitled " DAM BO", which was seen in Portugal as the best songs on the disc. At age 31, he is considered by many as one of the greatest exponents of the new generation of talent Creole. In 1994 he formed his first rock band What. Mayra Andrade
Mayra Andrade (born 13 February 1985) is a Cape Verdean singer who lives and records in Lisbon, Portugal. Background Andrade was born in Havana, Cuba, to parents from Cape Verde, and she and her family returned to Cape Verde a few days after her birth. Andrade spent the first years of her life in Cape Verde, but because her father was a diplomat for the Cape Verdean government, she traveled extensively with her family and lived in many countries during her childhood. Hence, during her childhood, she lived in Senegal, Angola, and Germany. However, she spent around two months of the year in the Cape Verdean island of Santiago. Andrade moved to Paris in 2002 when she was 17 years old and lived there until late 2015 when she moved to Lisbon, Portugal. She is multilingual, but most of the lyrics of the songs on her albums are in her native Cape Verdean Crioulo language. Habib Koité ( bm, , Habib Kuwatɛ, born 1958 in Thiès, Senegal) is a Malian musician, singer, songwriter and griot based in Mali. His band, Bamada, was a supergroup of West African musicians, which included Kélétigui Diabaté on balafon. Musical style Koité is known primarily for his unique approach to playing the guitar by tuning it on a pentatonic scale and playing on open strings as one would on a kamale n'goni. His music is also influenced by blues or flamenco which are two styles he learned under Khalilou Traore. Koité's vocal style is intimate and relaxed, emphasizing calm, moody singing rather than operatic technical prowess. Lenine, artist name of Osvaldo Lenine Macedo Pimentel (born 2 February 1959), is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from Recife, Pernambuco. Between the years of 2002 and 2018, he has earned a total of seven Latin Grammy Awards, (including the 2005 awards for "Best Brazilian Contemporary Album" and "Best Brazilian Song"). Career Lenine's career began at the age of 18, when he moved to Rio de Janeiro to compete in a music festival. In 1983, he released his first LP, ''Baque Solto'', with partner Lula Queiroga. Cesária Évora GCIH (; 27 August 194117 December 2011), more commonly known as Cize, was a Cape Verdean singer-songwriter. She received a Grammy Award in 2004 for her album '' Voz d'Amor''. Nicknamed the "Barefoot Diva" for performing without shoes, she was known as the "Queen of Morna". Évora began singing as a young woman in bars in her hometown of Mindelo, and came to international prominence in the 1990s. Rufino Almeida (born 1962 in Mindelo, São Vicente), better known as Bau, is a Cape Verdean musician. His father, an instrument maker, taught him how to make and play the guitar, the cavaquinho and the violin. In 1994, he joined the touring band of Cesária Évora and in 1996 became her musical director. In September 1999, he moved on and his song "Raquel" was featured in Pedro Almodóvar's 2002 film '' Talk to Her''. He's toured with several other singers, including Hernani Almeida in 1999 and 2001.
